Where?

Did you know that there are over 40 fashion weeks held all over the world each year? But the ‘Big Four’, as they are known, are the weeks held twice a year in February and September in New York, London, Milan and finishing in Paris. They are always held in this order, and have been since it began! New York was the first ever fashion week held, this was in 1943, inaugurated by Elenor Lamber. The newest of the four is London’s, first being held in 1984, organised by the British Fashion council.

When?

Fashion week is held twice a year in the Big Four, and this September’s dates are as follows:

New York 7th – 14th September

London 16th – 20th September

Milan 21st – 27th September

Paris 27th – 5th October

Each fashion week specialists in different areas of fashion, starting with sportswear in New York, leading on to an edgy/avante garde look in London, whilst the super stylish looks can be spotted in Milan, with fashion week culminating in Paris with the haute couture pieces.

Why?

Well, we know the answer to this don’t we? The fashion industry is a huge market and these fashion weeks are held to showcase the upcoming trends for the season, allowing fashion editors, stores and those fashion hungry of us to get our style on point ready for the upcoming season.

Whilst fashion weeks were originally meant to be held as a press event, with trade at the core of it, they have transformed into the glamorous and prestigious events they are known, and loved, today. And we certainly prefer it that way!
