A few weeks ago I did an article on Gunpowdrer Cherry Pie, a fun, vintage pop up shop in South East London. It is part of the Mary Portas and SEE3 challenge to invigorate the high street.
On 21st September another pop up shop named SEE Below was launched in time for Forest Hill Fashion week. Two fashion designers May Macleod and Mary Martin London are sharing the basement space underneath Marie’s Boutique which has been opened for a year but never celebrated!
On October 5th they all decided it was time to showcase their talents and designs, as well as give Maries Boutique an official welcome party. I love all the pop up shops that have come from the SEE3 initiative and its so refreshing that people are giving the chance to have space to sell and show their wonderful pieces. Whether it be bags, dresses or vintage pillows the SEE3 pop up shops are all unique and owned by lovely people!
I went along to the launch of May & Marys SEE Below pop up shop and the celebration of Maries boutique. It was a lovely evening where each designer show cased their designs and everyone had a chance to snoop around Maries bags and shoes.
First up was May Macleoud with some lovely wearable but fashionable designs. Her range catered from the petite to the curvy and all of her items were incredibly tailored with amazing material. The jacket the model is wearing in the above picture was gorgeous. It was a black velvet like blazer with small glistens of details from the buttons. It was a great example of how Mays range caters for everyone, slim or curvy.
Next up was Mary Martin London. Her range was eccentric, sassy and sexy. The dresses were all versatile in the sense that you could wear them how you wanted too. Short, long, inside out and back to front! The material and the designs made the dress movable and unique. She had an emphasize on Asymmetric cuts and glam sheer pieces.The nude coloured dress above was on display in the window and was an eye catcher, so when this dress came out, you can guess it stole the show!
So the catwalk and the desginers have taken over the basement for 1 month. It’s a shame its only a month but hopefully it gets them the showcase they deserve. Of course, all of this is happening in Maries Boutique. Marie focuses on selling bags. All types of bags and all different prices. There is something for everyone. She also sells shoes and accessories but bags is the theme.
Of course it wouldn’t have been right if I didn’t buy something! I couldn’t resist the bag on the window display above. The Square biscuit shaded handbag was calling me from the moment I walked in. Its hard wearing and great material. Perfect for the office and I love the gold detail.
Overall it was a great evening with some stunning evening with the two talented designers showing us their hand made clothing lines and with the boutique itself finally getting a warm welcome to the high street.
