The amazing Leah over at Just Me Leah has started a brilliant campaign for every one to love every body. It’s a body positivity workshop which is aimed at everyone! No matter what size or shape you should love yourself and this is about embracing what we see as a negative part of our body and transforming it into a positive.
I love the fact that Leah has done this and so many people are taking part. It’s going to be a journey for many people and since blogging, mine has already begun.
So Assignment 1 is to write a letter to your body. Acknowledging the goods, the bad, the ups and the downs.
Dear My Body…
I know you’re a little tired today but that’s understandable. You’ve had so much to do lately let alone the change in attention. Yeah… I’ve noticed! You seem to be looking a little hotter lately with those curves of yours. What have you been doing? Nothing? Really? You’ve been like this all along? Wow! How come I’ve only just noticed?
Oh I remember now…
Sometimes confidence radiates. But not from the inside. It radiates from the skin outwards. It’s still confidence to the people around you but it’s not TRUE confidence, the one you don’t need to think about. That’s been my kind of confidence for so long now. But recently, I’ve been feeling that real, core confidence that no one can knock. The one where a year ago I would have thought shit, they are laughing at me. Now I think, ha! Clearly jealous that I’m looking kinda alright today! My lovely body, I’m sorry I rejected you all those times. Those days when I couldn’t leave the house because you were just hopeless! Those days when I’d rather die of heat exhaustion instead of getting my arms out and those days when being bland was better. Because now I know it isn’t.
It’s funny because people who have caused those thoughts probably don’t even know it. Direct comments were never targeted at me, it was the thoughts behind general conversation. The underlying meaning of what people were saying. The never good enough syndrome. The untangle every word into a negative syndrome.
Well body, you might now be toned, tanned and blemish free but your mine and I’m learning to love you with the help of my amazing boyfriend and the positive people in my life. Because that’s the key. Anyone that doesn’t think your amazing isn’t worthy of taking a single second of your precious life. Because you deserve nothing more than the best. So surround yourself with the best.
Body, I’ve also noticed of late that you’ve been pretty generous with your compliments of others. I think I know why. Because when you start accepting and being positive about how you look you make the mind happy too and seeing how beautiful the people are around creates a domino effect. Radiating my genuine self-contentment onto others.
So this letter is to say I’m sorry about the damage I’ve caused you, some of it I can fix and some of it I don’t want too because they are battle scares. The battle that we are winning together. I know there are tough times ahead but we got it baby
