I few months back I went to the British Plus Size Fashion Weekend and had a brilliant time. I went along to help Monique over at MS.SVG and I met some lovely people. It was great to see plus size fashion at it’s best and the confidence of people at the event was epic!
There were quite a lot of press there capturing the collections on the catwalk and some of the higher profile attendees such as Hayley Hasselhoff and Americas next top model winner Whitney Thompson. There were lots of people there and I bumped into Deborah Coughlin . Deborah is a producer, writer & director. She founded Gaggle, a radical all-female choir. She is deputy editor of the Feminist Times and often contributes to the BBC’s radio 4 Womens Hour.
She was at BPSFW researching womens opinions on being Plus Size and shopping on the high street. If you are over a size 16 I’m sure you have lot’s to say on the subject. Well I did and we had a lengthy chat about how hard it can be to find fashionable clothing on the high street. Funnily enough, she Deborah included some of our chat and what I said in her mini programme for Womens Hour.

Let me know what you think. It’s refreshing to actually have women talking about these issues. Everyone is different and everyone has a different opinion. It’s great to have people embracing their size and putting their opinions out there. If we all had a voice and made it a little bit louder who knows what we could achieve.
There are already improvements happening with new plus size stores such as Taking Shape opening numerous shops over the UK and Simply Be are branching out to the South of England (hooray) even the long standing high street store Evans have upped their game in plus size fashion. Fingers crossed it can only get better.
