Last week River Island went all California Dreaming and hosted their Spring & Summer 2014 Press Day. As always it was a little room full of excitement with bold colours, shimmering jewels and some pretty quirky outfits. With bright yellow walls and an edible beach scene it definitely encompassed the excitement of the warmer seasons.

My favourite River Island Spring/Summer range has to be ‘Posh Pastels’. It was full of dusky pinks and fondant shades with lots of embellishments and sheer material. The candy pinks had a ‘barely there’ appeal with really light skimming fabrics and cut out floral pieces. It’s a really pretty and feminine range and perfect for the warm weather.
The whole of the Spring and Summer River Island womenswear range is full of different textures. From organza, mesh, silk, fake fur and plastic there is something for every style.
The bright colours are in full force for 2014 and River Islands two ranges ‘Classic Plastic’ and ‘Resort Youth’ intertwine to create a mix mash of prints, colours and textures. This is what you would expect of River Island. Classic loud and proud style.
The large chunky sandals are really calling my name and the colours are super summary. I’m loving the embellishments and if anything it will mean I can cut down on my accessories… well that is until I saw the Metallic accessories that River Island have planned for us.
With everything from bling sunglasses to cut out sports sandals the metallics are ready to set the streets on fire. River Island have managed to embed the Metallic accessories in with their ‘Tribal Grunge’ range which is full of snake skin, prints and leather. the biker jacket is going to be seen a lot during Spring / Summer 2014 across most high street brands so River Island have made their own mark on the classic style.
Another of their super strong ranges for spring and Summer is ‘Sports Mono’. Black and white with a little edge to it. Very like Rihanna and if she did another range I’m sure things like this would be embedded at some point.
I really like the above Bubka Organza shirt above which felt lovely against the skin and the Aztec print wrap skirt was also one of my faves. (You know I have an Aztec print fetish!)
Overall it’s an exciting Spring / Summer 2014 range and the colours and textures are going to explode into the stores. I’m already making a wish list for the shoes. The cut out sandals are on the top!
