Yesterday, Evans, UKPSFW and Bridge Models decided to do an advertorial for their campaign #StyleHasNoSize. Hooray I think to myself a great idea and a great way to show that stye really does not have a size. But obviously, it was all too good to be true. This is the image that represents Evans plus size customers, the UK and generally just a range of sizes. (As that’s the point here – style has NO size). But Alas, this is the picture –
YES! These women are gorgeous, look amazing and are on point. However… one thing is missing here… the fact that they are all the same size visually. The slogan is #Stylehasnosize – well in this picture it does. Clearly just one size by the looks of it. Where is the DIVERSITY in every sense of the word. COME ON guys… this is SO frustrating! so yes, there was an uproar on social media. Cry of THIS IS WRONG! WHERE IS THE DIVERSITY? I CAN NOT RELATE TO THIS! – so yes I had my little say but then decided, along with my awesome girl gang that we would reenact the image our way. In the same place, outside of Evans in Marble Arch and share it with our friends, readers and followers. This is us.
What I would like to point out is that we all came straight from work, last minute idea and actually pulled this off. A bunch of friends with the same mind set who just wanted to show you that we all have different sizes and we’re all pretty stylish on a day to day basis. But this is representation broader than the original picture and a true representation of people who I perceive as inspiration style wise. Yes we would have loved to include a diverse range of people but like I said, 5 friends getting together, not 3 media agencies with a list of thousands to choose from. See my point here?
