If you are looking for the right strategies, not just to be a healthy person, but being a calm and happy one, it requires a number of different strategies in combination with making time to develop your practice in this particular realm. What are some of the best methods? Let’s show you some key strategies.

Understand Self-Care

Self-care isn’t something that you should do last, but rather do first. Self-care is about making sure that you are finding the right methods that actually suit your temperament. For example, you may wish to try something like meditation or mindfulness, but to actually get to the point where you are calm and serene, it may very well take months, or even years, of effort. This is where something like CBD has been incredibly useful in the modern world. We’re all rushing around so much, and therefore finding something that can get us calm quickly makes a big difference. It’s also definitely worth thinking about something like deep breathing or techniques that you can use when it all gets too much to ground you.

Noticing Unhelpful Thoughts

If we feel stressed and overwhelmed, we can easily go into thought patterns such as all-or-nothing thinking or catastrophising. Challenging these unhelpful thoughts and replacing them with more realistic perspectives, not necessarily happier alternatives, can make a big difference here.

Positive Self-Talk

Positive self-talk is one of those things that many people think is hippy-dippy; however, there’s been plenty of research to debunk this. When you start to think physiologically in the fact that your mind is actually not able to tell what’s real and what is imagined, this can open you up to the right types of techniques that can help you reframe your perspectives. For example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or even tools like self-hypnosis. Positive self-talk is something that can help you in those moments because it can distract you from the thinking that becomes a default setting and give you that sense of positivity that makes all of the difference.

Prepare Your Environment

While you can’t control what happens to you, you can plan ahead for situations that may trigger certain things in you. If your child is someone who is prone to tantrums and outbursts and you feel like you have completely exhausted your parental bandwidth, you should recognise triggers, make notes of them and when they occur, and then you can start to prevent many meltdowns that push you beyond your perceived capabilities.

Adjust Your Expectations

If there’s one thing we all need to remember as a parent, it’s that we can’t get it perfect. You will never get it 100% all of the time. You need to adjust your framing of situations and recognise that being a present parent who is loving is far more important. In addition to all of this, remember you can’t do it all alone. Help in the form of a parental group or asking friends, family, or your partner for support when you need a break is also key. But with practice, you can develop happy and natural parenting as a perfect skill.
