The 3 Key Trends to Wear this Christmas inspired by the Catwalks of London Fashion Week
Christmas is nearly here again and we are all beginning to think about our party outfits. Whether you are going to your works Christmas party or you are heading out to meet those friends that you haven’t seen for a year; what you where will be on your mind. As with every new season there are always new trends that have come down from the catwalks of London Fashion Week, so now is the time to start getting excited about this seasons latest looks. So here are three of the key looks that you simply must be a part of this year.
White Out
Just like winter sports and snow, this season’s signature shade is white! Unlike previous seasons though, this is not minimalist styling this is the merging together or many textures. Helmut Lang was one of the first designers to bring back the white on white look to the catwalks and unlike previous years his look was not as feminine. Bringing the calf length skirt into the limelight, he created some unique designs blending some masculine tailoring in with some feminine styling.
Now white may not be everyone’s favourite shade; it is not always the easiest to wear during the winter months. However this doesn’t mean that it should be avoided as there are many ways that you can add in a pop of colour to make you the focus of any party. Start off with looking for two separate pieces, such as a skirt and blouse. This can be perfect if you are shopping for a plus sized outfit in this shade as you have more control over the fit than you would do from a single dress. Look for contrasting fabrics and textures, to add depth to an all-white look, and then add in coloured heels for that extra WOW factor.
Punk Rock is Back
This is one trend that I am seriously excited about announcing its return. From leather biker jackets all the way through to gold studded boots; winter is getting its grunge on once again. This is the one trend where you can really get creative with you fashion choices. You can opt for mixing patterns, throwing in some heavy metal studs and the obligatory tartan – which we must all latch onto at some point. This is one trend that was seen all over the catwalks but none did it better than Vivienne Westwood; there was no competition really.
If you are looking to head out in a punk music inspired outfit, then you must make sure that you have as much fun with your look as possible. Look for studded T-shirts, thick black knits and skinny distressed denim remembering that you don’t have to go all out punk, just have a hint of it!
Clash your Patterns
Yes this season we all need to be heading for the bold and beautiful, even if we are used to a matching look. Last summer season saw the return of the clashing patters, which was a moment to rejoice for many of us. This season it is back and as it is close to Christmas we can add in a fun twist through Christmas patterns and fun colours. This is not a look for the feint of hear however, it is definitely one that needs careful consideration as you don’t want to look like you have just thrown on some items and haven’t considered how they work together.
Many designers have taken on this trend this year, but none did it with more style than Tom Ford, whose collection was simply to die for. From blending Aztec prints with 80’s sequins all the way through to deco inspired looks clashing against boho chic; it was literally a dream come true. To take away some inspiration from this, it is advisable to look for a vintage print and clash it against a subtle modern one. This way it won’t be as “in your face” but it will keep you clashing with finesse.
