It doesn’t matter what the industry is, there are companies everywhere that struggle to manage staffing through the year. It makes sense in today’s market, as we asked firmly in the middle of a talent tight market which makes finding the right people very difficult. In peak periods, it can be very stressful to find all of the resources that you need to meet your stuffing.

You also don’t want that problem of being over-resourced during slow periods which can make it very financially challenging. Whether you choose to use labour demand forecasting tools, or you simply go online and have a look at the current trends happening in your industry, you need to figure out a way to make stuffing easier and more effective. Here are four tips to help that happen.

  1. Make sure that you plan ahead. You know better than anybody what your business needs, but if you don’t plan ahead you’re not going to be in the know when it comes to those busy times of year. You end up having a situation where you are hiring far too late and you can’t get the right amount of people to come on board and help you to manage during those tough times. A good place to start is figuring out when you’re high and low demand periods are for your business based on your past experiences. You need to look at the data and study it properly.
  2. Consider hiring temps. You may not have considered a temporary workforce before, but it’s actually one of the best things that you can do for your business. When you have a temporary workforce, you can support your existing permanent staff and know that they are going to be able to get the work done that is needed because they have that additional support. Temps are cheaper than permanent employees, which means you can get more done for less money.
  3. Use as much technology as is necessary. We are living in a time where there is nothing better at your fingertips for your business than technology. There are several software tools and platforms that can help you to manage your staffing, and as staffing is an age-old problem, there will always be new techniques out there to help. You just have to find the right one for your business.
  4. approach previous talent. If you’ve hired contract or temporary staff before you will understand exactly how good it is to have the same people working for you who already know your business and don’t require any training. It’s much more efficient to hire people that you’ve worked with before and he understands your business rather than starting from scratch all over again. You may not think you need it, but temporary staff can make a very big difference to your day-to-day running of your business, so looking into early is important if you want to ensure that you hire the right people for the next time you are going to have a busy period.
