As the chill of winter begins to fade away, the clocks jump forward and the evenings get lighter, it’s time to say goodbye to heavy layers and welcome the freshness of spring into our wardrobes. For those of us who are plus-size, transitioning from winter to spring can be an exciting yet daunting task. But fear not, I’ve got you! With a few simple tips and a sneak peek at what Very.co.uk has in store for spring 2024, you’ll be ready to embrace the season in style.

  1. Layer Strategically: Spring weather can be unpredictable, so layering is key. Start by shedding the heavy winter coats and swapping them for lightweight jackets, soft fabric coats or cardigans. Opt for bright colours to give your wardrobe a burst of fresh air and size up if you can so that they can easily be layered over your favourite spring outfits. Very has a whole host of plus size coats available to choose from, but this pink boucle number is my spring winner. Pink coats always make a statement and is the perfect transitional colour to bring some spring into your wardrobe.
  1. Play with Colours and Prints: Spring is all about embracing vibrant hues and playful prints. Say goodbye to the dark and dreary colours of winter, and hello to pastels, florals, and bold prints. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour-blocking or mixing and matching different patterns to create eye-catching looks. Ignore the fashion rules, striped tops are the way forward. I don’t know who said striped tops are unflattering because it’s an actual lie! Tucked into some jeans, you’ll look like you’ve just stepped off a Pinterest page. Plus size tops don’t have to be boring! Red and pink is my favourite colour combination and I will always champion it, especially in spring and summer.
  1. Invest in Transitional Pieces: Look for wardrobe staples that can seamlessly transition from winter to spring. Items like maxi dresses, flowy skirts, and lightweight sweaters are perfect for layering but a good pair of jeans will always be a wardrobe winner. All it takes is one staple pair of jeans to see you through the warmer months.  Levi’s plus size jeans are brilliant, and really last the distance. You’ll be wearing them for the next 5 years and more. The ones I’m wearing here were generous in size and so comfortable. Def recommended.
  1. Accessorize Thoughtfully: Accessories can make or break an outfit, so choose wisely. Add pops of colour with statement jewellery, scarves, or handbags. Don’t forget to swap out your winter accessories like beanies and gloves for lighter options like straw hats and sleek sunglasses. My top tip is to go for a neutral colour to make a bright outfit pop, but see if you can find one with a little va va voom of colour. It’s. simple way of looking stylish, well put together, minimum effort and of course, spring ready.
  1. Footwear Counts: It’s not quite sandal weather yet, we’ve still got April showers to content with. Invest in a good pair of chunky trainers to wear with any spring outfit. New Balance are the serious on trend footwear brand right now, plus they’re super comfortable! Winning! Chunky trainers are great with spring dresses, jeans or joggers. Whether your wardrobe is full of plus size black dresses or bright orange trouser suits, these trainers will go with everything. It’s almost guaranteed.

You’re now ready to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring with confidence. Remember to have fun experimenting with different styles and trends, and most importantly, embrace your curves with pride! It’s all about feeling good and feeling comfortable. Wear what makes you happy.
