Life can be stressful at times, and finding good ways to calm yourself – ways that work quickly and effectively, of course – is important if you want to keep your physical and mental wellbeing on track. It doesn’t matter what the stress is linked to, all that matters is you know how to combat it and get back to normal sooner rather than later. Now if you find that none of these tactics work and you’re still just as stressed as you ever were, it’s a good idea to make an appointment to see your doctor for advice, but it’s well worth trying these first as it might be you’re able to calm yourself when you need to. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.

Do Puzzles

Puzzles aren’t just a fun pastime, they’re also a fantastic way to calm your mind when it’s racing and you’re starting to feel stressed about work, your health, your future, money, or anything else that might come up.

When you do a puzzle that you really have to think about, like a crossword, for example, you’ll be completely immersing yourself in the work, and your brain will shift focus from the stressful things it’s dealing with to the task at hand. That’s great news because this change of focus helps reduce your anxiety and your stress, plus it makes you feel accomplished and keeps your brain healthy too, so it’s definitely something to do when you’re feeling stressed.

Deep Breathing

You’ve probably heard that deep breathing is one of the best ways to calm yourself when you’re feeling stressed and it works by reducing the amount of stress hormones you have in your body, making you feel more relaxed and boosting your mood at the same time.

To do deep breathing the right way, you’ll need to find a quiet space to sit or lie down in and make yourself comfortable, and then you’ll need to inhale deeply through your noise so you fill your lungs completely. Don’t let the breath out just yet; hold it for a few seconds and then exhale slowly through your mouth, completely emptying your lungs. Repeat the process for a little while, focusing on your breath all the time, and you should feel much better afterwards.

Do Something Creative

Creativity is a great outlet for stress relief and engaging in a creative activity means you can express yourself, which is important, and it means you can distract your mind from whatever’s causing you stress, so it’s a good thing to do no matter what angle you might look at it from.
There are also loads of different activities to try, so you’re sure to find something you enjoy and that suits your preferences and abilities, from painting and drawing to playing music to writing, and so much more. Think about what you’re interested in and where your passions lie when it comes to art, and go from there – you can join an amateur class or group, you can learn online and go it alone, or you can do a mixture of both – it’s your choice, and as long as you’re having fun, skill really isn’t all that important!
