The definition of Geek Chic as per the Oxford Dictionary is this –
I like this definition and actually I quite like the Geek Chic look so I decided to create myself a little wish list. It isn’t a trend I have worn before but it does look incredibly fashionable and I love this outfit! It basically gives you scope to wear silly slogans, bright colours and create a fun look.
I love this Geek Chic outfit
1. ASOS Wayfarer Glasses kicking off the Geek Chic look with some cool clear lens glasses. Black plastic frames for a bold look. I don’t care if they are from the menswear range. Ironically, a survey by CyberCompare.net asked 2363 women what type of ‘geeky chic’ items they preferred on a man. 65% of the women answered thick rimmed fashionable glasses as their number one! This explains why every menswear range work looking at has a whole host of fashion glasses. I did well then!
2. River Island Print T Shirt – I tweeted about the T shirt and got a great response. It’s so quirky it’s cool. Donut Talk To Me. I love it. A talking point if ever I saw it! (slogan t shirts came fourth in the survey I mentioned above – I love this top but not sure if I would love it so much if a guy was wearing something similar – bit too cheesy for me!)
3. Topshop Suede mini backpack – I think this is a gorgeous little backpack. It’s a bargain at £28.00 and goes in with the Summer pastel trend and the sports lux trend which is about to go mad!
4. Lacoste Ankle Socks – These are uber cute and matched with the boots will scream geek chic. Pretty and understated.
5. AX Paris PU skater Skirt – I think the t shirt tucked into this skater dress will look great. Relaxed and casual but so fresh!
6. ASOS Rocket lace up Ankle Boots – Last but not least these simple boots. Understated but chunky. Fits in with the thee nicely.
I love this look. Everything about it. I guess Geek Chic comes into play because it’s just fun and quirky. Heading back to the survey I mentioned earlier, the results showed that 57% of the woman claimed that they saw a man with a ‘geeky’ style more intelligent compared to a man with a sart or formal dress sense. I’m not sure I agree. My boyfriend doesn’t really do the ‘geek chic’ look with slogan t shirts, glasses, braces, button up shirts etc and he is one of the cleverest people I know!
But, saying that, with the like of Tinie Tempah and Olly Murs associated with Geek Chic style… I can see the appeal!
