I remember when I used to turn down those party invitations, avoid the ‘what are you wearing‘ conversations and generally dread the idea of having to dress up a bit. Not because I didn’t, love clothes, oh nooooo, I loved getting glamed up (I still do) but the problem was when I left the house. You know, walking to the door of the club or party and EVERY body looks at you up and down as you walk past the queue. I used to want the ground to swallow me up as I convinced myself that the giggles and whispering were about how big I was, awful I looked… the list goes on. Since starting my blog a couple of years ago, slowly but surely those thoughts have diminished and now I realise I dress for ME! I don’t need anyones approval, ESPECIALLY those strangers in the queue. Plus, occasionally, I think they just love what I’m wearing. Well if I do.. they should too right?! But one of the key things that helped my confidence was being inspired by other plus size beauties who just rocked party outfits like they were glowing with some special kind of magic. I realised that magic is a really powerful thing called confidence. So to inspire you before you leave out for your New Years parties and get togethers, here are some awe inspiring plus size bloggers who rock the going out look. Remember, if they can do it, so can you!
I can’t compliment Kristine enough on this jumpsuit choice. I love that you don’t have to wear a dress to be dressy. A jumpsuit is casual, comfortable and with a little details like the crossover top and the metallic belt it’s party ready. If I saw Kristine walk past me in the queue to the club, I would HAVE to stop and stare.
What I love about Betty is that she can make anything her own and she really does glow in any kind of dress. But there’s something about this sequin number that shouts confidence to be. I guess, for so many reasons, I would have overlooked this dress a couple of years ago for fear of showing my arms, being too bright, too much leg, too tight… the list goes on. But then, looking at Betty in this showstopper, she looks beautiful and there’s nothing like sequins to make you feel special! This is why it’s so important to see women who look like us so we can see how amazing they look and reap some of that positivity.
I’m totally in love with Amber. she is so freaking cute it’s unbelievable! This green dress is so up my street and it looks incredible. I love the colour. Yes, just because you’re curvy doesn’t mean you should hide away…. HELLO! This style of dress shows you can be party proud with out baring too much in the cold weather and that colour can really make an impact to an otherwise simple outfit.
One of my favourite things to wear to a get-together are ripped skinny jeans. They are effortlessly stylish and Monique shows that my matching them with a shimmery top they look spot on for any event. I’d wear this outfit to any party, dinner or even just at home I love it that much. Talk about getting comfy chic seriously on point. It’s also a great outfit to wear if you’re battling with your confidence because it’s one that you’ll feel in control of. It’s probably not far off what you wear every day but with a little added glam. If you don’t fancy the shimmer top or jacket, opt for a statement necklace instead.
Please. If there is one thing you do in 2016, it’s try a bodycon dress. You might feel a little outside of your comfort zone at first but if Kims anything to go buy, you’ll be seriously hot and about to light up any party you walk in too. What I love about this look and all of Kims looks is that they are relatively simple but with bold colours and really simple but effective details. So the zips on this dress take it from plain to edgy and bodycons can actually be really comfortable if you just give them a try!
If there was a modern day Grease Lightening, Jay would take this outfit and be the head of the Pink Ladies. This outfit encompasses everything I could want on a night out and again, it shows that you don’t have to wear the traditional dress. It’s sexy, comfortable and edgy. A little bit glam and super stylish. Jay teamed this with a chunky cardigan too for a chilly evening and it really works so well. You don’t have to stop wearing black to stand out, just look for edgy pieces and team them together. I think Jay completely rocks this look.
Emily is a woman after my own heart. Seriously, if I’m EVER in doubt of my outfit, want to make it a little edgier, just not feeling 100% or it’s just a little chilly, I opt for my leather biker style jacket. It’s really one of the staples of my wardrobe and just like Emily in this dress, it just seems to go with anything! It’s literally my entire wardrobe back up plan!
As for me, this is the last outfit I wore out to a party. (I’ve actually worn it to the last 2!) It’s a velvet style skater dress and the material is lovely. It’s plain and standard black but theres something special about it because of the fabric and it’s had multiple compliments on both nights out! I don’t opt for heels usually so ankle boots are my best friends and like I said before, the statement necklace brings any outfit to life.
