I feel like this summer has been the longest and the hottest that I remember. The fact I was pregnant probably made it seem a lot longer for me (heat and pregnancy aren’t best friends – take my word for it). Now the cooler weather is creeping in and the air is getting a little crispier, I’m feeling much happier. Autumn is my favourite season; it’s not too hot and not too cold. It’s perfect for ankle boots but you can keep your winter coat away for a little longer.

Everything about autumn makes me happy. (If we can all please ignore the darker days). It’s time to start the transition between my summer and winter wardrobe. Nothing too drastic because there’s still lots of sunshine around and I don’t have the time to do a whole wardrobe reboot. All the props to you if you do! But I can feel the weather turning and I really can’t wait to mix things up a bit.

Dresses & Ankle Boots For The Win

My Favourite Autumn Looks For 2018 - Pretty Big Butterflies

Dresses and ankle boots are my key autumn look and it always has. It’s so easy, super comfortable and it can be as eye-catching or as simple as you like. This leopard print wrap dress from V by Very is a part of their Curve collection. It’s so easy to wear that you won’t even need to turn the light on when the dark mornings are here. It’s super soft and kind of drapes over me. It’s a winner for looking and feeling fab during the change in weather.

Leopard print is going to be everywhere this autumn and winter. (Hooray!) I feel like wearing it in a simple cut dress like this is the effortless way of being on trend. Plus, it’s great to wear to work and then dress it up a bit in the evening. It really is a wardrobe staple. I’m wearing a size 28 and it’s really comfortable. I’d size up if you have large arms like myself.

These ankle boots are also from Very and although they aren’t wide fit, they’re quite generous. The ankle is a little snug. But I love the lace up detail at the back. Plain black boots like this with a little detail can be worn with any dress throughout the whole season. Fast, simple fashion is what I’m living for right now! Especially with two kids under two! Oh yeah, that also reminds me that flat boots are the way forward too. I’m not about to run after a 2-year-old in heels, OK?

Brights & Denim Keeping It Simple

Wearing bright colours in autumn Pretty Big Butterflies

I’m all for adding a bit of zest to my autumn wardrobe. Especially as it’s not quite cold enough for full-on knitwear. I’ve started to opt for comfortable tops with long sleeves. This absolutely gorgeous emerald green wrap blouse from Very Curve is one of the best things I’ve worn in ages. In fact, this entire outfit makes me feel super sassy. It has a satin feel to it and it drapes over the front. It’s a really classic look but it super stylish. I’d get one in every colour if they had it.

I’m denim till I die kind of girl. Even after my babies, I couldn’t wait to jump into my jeans again. I’m a funny one though; I’m a big fan of distressed denim. I love a rip or 5. But I know that my knees will get chilly if I wear big gaping ripped jeans over the next couple of months. These plus size straight leg jeans are a great alternative. They have a raw hem, which really adds an edge and once again, that effortless style. Can you see where I’m heading here? Anything that I can put on and go and still feel fabulous in is what I’m looking for these days. These jeans are high waist and stretchy too, so the comfort is real. There’s nothing worse than uncomfortable jeans. I’m far to busy for that these days, it would drive me up the wall!

Yellow Accessories

Very Curve Range Review - pretty big butterflies

Keeping in with the bright theme that I’m aiming for this autumn, I’m planning on using a few accessories to make my outfits pop. It’s amazing how adding a glimpse of colour or pattern via my accessories turns up my sass levels. Plus, it’s minimal effort. Double-winning over here.

I’m in love with these Tortoiseshell design earrings; they’re a dark yellow colour but add a huge style statement to any outfit. I’ve worn them with this green blouse but they work just as well with a slogan tee (one of my favourite looks) or a chunky knit. They feel like a style statement that takes 2 seconds to put on in the morning. If only everything was that easy, huh?

The same goes for this boxy bag. It’s ochre yellow but it goes with almost anything. I swear, this kind of yellow is so on trend for autumn and I’m going to milk it. This, along with leopard print, can live in my wardrobe for the next few months. I’m all over it.

Those are the key looks I’m leaning towards this autumn and heading into winter. For me, it’s all about looking good and feeling great in the least amount of time possible. I don’t have the time to change four times in the morning before fining the outfit that feels right. (I used to be SO bad at choosing what to wear in the morning). So now I’m aiming to shop from places like Very where I know I can find key wardrobe staples to help me get out the door (or just downstairs!) in the first outfit I put on.

I know rose gold isn’t yellow but it’s definitely in the spectrum. I absolutely love these rose gold wide fit loafers from Very. I can’t believe they fit so well considering they’re quite a robust shoe. These won’t let any rain in but they look so bright and fun. Plus, they can be worn with almost anything. I told you, fashion that saves you time in the morning is the absolute best.
