On Saturday 5th May 2018 UK Plus Size Fashion Week (UKPSFW) returned with a charity fashion event. Filled with a diverse fashion show, panel discussions, a music performance and charity auction, it was a positive environment for everything plus size related. Held in The Yard in trendy Shoreditch, East London. I went along to UKPSFW and accompanied the lovely Curvissa team who were a main brand featured at the event. If you don’t already know, Curvissa is a plus size brand who offer clothing in sizes 14-32. I’ve found their clothing is all about quality and the fabrics feel great when you wear them. More about that later!
Curvissa has a great summer campaign running at the moment called #FeelGood. It’s nothing fancy or over the top, which is why I like it; it’s simply about feeling good in whatever you’re wearing. It’s about having clothes that not only look good but make you feel good, especially during the summer months! As a plus size woman, I know the self-doubt and lack of confidence that can start to set in when you realise it’s just too hot to hide away. So I love that Curvissa is all about wearing bright colours and making maximum impact. Because even if you doubt yourself occasionally, believe me (and Curvissa) when I say that you’re allowed and should Feel Good.

I wore Curvissa to UKPSFW and I can’t even say how many lovely people commented on the top I was wearing. It was a super comfortable tropical print top with a really small cold shoulder detail. The print really stood out and it was great to see the same print in a gorgeous skirt version on the catwalk. The top is light and cool which means overheating in the sudden summer isn’t a problem! It actually fitted really well and considering it didn’t have any real stretch to it, I was amazingly comfortable!
I also wore some mesh insert leggings from Curvissa instead of my usual ripped jeans. I was a little apprehensive at first and kept saying to myself I can’t wear leggings to a fashion event! Well, I did, and I’m SO pleased I did. Not only were they stupidly comfortable, they were such a good fabric that they didn’t roll or go see through. They have mesh panels at the bottom of the legs, which gives them a little Va Va Voom. Seriously, I could wear these leggings for anything. From working out to dressing up. They are a great alternative to jeans and because the quality is so good, they don’t look much different. I guess the Curvissa campaign worked, I did feel good!
The catwalk at UKPSFW was pretty fabulous. Lots of diversity and the models really walked that runway with pure confidence. It was great to see, as the confidence was infectious. Curvissa took to the catwalk with their brilliant summer range. Full of bright prints and casual comforts. The catwalk ended with a great performance from Tai, a semi-finalist on The Voice. She also spoke on the panel about being a bigger girl growing up and how she feels much more confident now than she probably would have done a few years ago. I agree with her to a degree, slowly but surely body positivity is shining through. The panel also consisted of X Factor stylist Lucas Armitage and Scummy Mummy comedian Helen Thorn who all discussed if size mattered and made some poignant points about living your best life now, regardless of size.

I caught up with some fellow plus size babes too at the evening event, which is always a good thing. If you’re ever concerned about heading to a plus size event alone DON’T BE! There are so many friendly faces that will stop for a chat etc. Just be ready to compliment those outfits and grab a selfie or two because it’s all about sharing that feel good moment. I bumped into the gorgeous Rachel from @ukafrolista who was also wearing new season Curvissa. There’s nothing better than finally meeting people in person who you’ve been supporting and following online. It’s always like a little long lost friendship moment! I loved how Rachel worked the khaki jacket and trousers. I keep shouting that plus size fashion doesn’t have to be boring and this is a prime example.
