Spring and Summer 2020 is all about the accessories. From chunky pieces to cute bags, it’s all on the table – but there are a few standout pieces that are super on-trend this season. Here’s what you should shop right now.
New but old jewellery
Vintage jewellery is going to fly this year, but when do you ever head to a charity shop and find the kind of women’s necklaces that make you jump for joy. Very rarely right? That’s why you can now get some fab new necklaces that have that vintage charm. I’m in love with my Estee Lalonde unity ring necklace. I thought I gave this kind of jewellery up ages ago, but since I’ve popped it on, I can’t take it off. So wear it with everything, anything, layer it up or keep it simple. Either way, it’s bang on-trend.
Anything Animal Print
Animal prints are still running wild over our wardrobes, but slinky snakeskin is especially chic right now – especially if it’s paired with that other summer trend, bright neon. For a more subtle style statement, add a snakeskin shoe or bag to a neutral outfit. (This dress is perfect for all seasons too!)
Teeny-tiny bags
Honey, who shrunk my handbag? Bad news for those of us who carry tons of stuff around – summer 2019’s bags are cute and as micro as possible. Bonus points if they’re basketry.
Chunky sneakers
Do they look like they come from outer space? Are they so ginormous that they make your ankles look like twigs? Do they have shiny panels, neon pops of colour, or interesting textures? Do they make you bounce like you’re walking on a trampoline? If you answered yes to any of these questions, your sneakers are cool this season.
Geometric sunglasses
Was this ever cool in the ’90s? Who knows, but it does make fashionistas right now look a little bit like Barbie dolls. If you’re feeling bold, go for a brightly-coloured plastic frame, and if you’re feeling a little more beachy, opt for wire-framed shades with a colourful tint. Another surprising trend is sunglass chains, which have got a LOT cooler since you last saw them – think strings of sparkling beads, or gold chains decorated with tiny charms.
Hair ornaments
Carrying on the trend from last season, 90s-style hair ornaments are hot right now. Plus, they’re a great way to keep your hair tidy and off your face – tame flyaway wisps with a chic pearl-studded band and nail this summer’s style.
