You’ve been so bothered about the virus and the effects it will have on your family’s health that you never stopped to think about your skin. It’s pretty durable, and it’s not as if any of the side-effects are skin-related, so you’ve focused on other things. However, a quite sizable 29% of Brits are worried about the potential impacts, and they are right to be. Sure, you don’t see it now, yet when you think about it closely, you recognise the signs. You need to be like the 59% of Britons changing their skincare routine to combat being inside more often, and this is why.

You’re Washing Your Hands All The Time

Not only are you washing your hand regularly, but you’re doing it for twenty to thirty seconds per session. Let’s face it – the strictest germaphobe struggles to keep their hands under the tap for half a minute! Still, if it helps and doesn’t have any consequences, it’s a necessary evil. Only, it does have repercussions since your skin is shrivelled and wrinkly. Without hand cream, it could stay this way, or at least age quicker, due to the lack of moisture. Please moisturise, or else your hands will look as if they are about to retire!

You’re Always Inside

There are two parts to this equation. Firstly, the indoors is okay, yet there isn’t enough natural light to go around, and without vitamin D, your skin will suffer. Vitamin D is found in sunlight, along with other essential nutrients, and it’s vital as it helps to restore cells and free radicals. The second problem is, the sun continues to impact your skin, even in the colder months. Therefore, when you go outside and are not used to the light, you can experience everything from blotchy redness to burns. If you leave the house, make sure to wear SPF.

Life Is Stressful

When you think about it, your skin should be healthier. You wear less makeup, drink more water, and don’t indulge in as many bevvies as usual. So, why isn’t it glowing? The answer is simple – stress. A lockdown might be slow and boring, but it’s an anxious time for people who want to see their friends and family, go back to work, and earn money again without the prospect of unemployment staring them in the face. High cortisol levels are the enemy, which is why you must blow off steam by working out regularly. Yoga is excellent as it focuses on breathing exercises.

Your Mindset Is Unhealthier

Typically, there are reasons to take pride in your appearance. For instance, you have to go to work and don’t want to appear as if you were dragged through a hedge on the commute! In a lockdown, those reasons fade away, making it tougher to commit to a daily routine. In short, you might not moisturise or apply creams and lotions as often. While there is nobody to impress, you’ll find that your skin deteriorates rapidly, and that should be enough to hop back on the healthy train!

Is your skin getting worse in lockdown? Could it be due to the reasons outlined in this post?
