Finally we seem to have a little sun out for a change! Spring seems to be here and this year I am going to flash the flesh for sure! Don’t worry, I won’t be scaring you out of the parks or make you drop your ice cream. I just mean that I am embracing myself and I am going to wear what I want. Floaty skirts and vest tops are my challenge of the season. As soon as I went to pop on a tropical print skirt I realised my legs were seriously pale. There is nothing wrong with this, but I know I feel better when I have a tan. It’s all about confidence right? I’ve only ever tanned on holiday in real sun and decent after sun with a hint of self-tan. I have TRIED to self-tan my legs and literally ended up looking like I had dirty marks on my legs and the streaks were ridiculous! Well, then came along Cocoa Brown, the most talked about tan in town, and their impressive Lovely Legs Tanning Spray.
So I went along to the Cocoa Brown Tanning range Spring & Summer press day, which happened to pop up just as the sun came out. I’ve heard quite a bit about Cocoa Brown and I’ve seen the tanning range while I’ve been browsing in Superdrug’s and Primark. I was overly excited about giving it a try and as a complete novice I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Marissa Carter is the woman behind the brand and she is lovely. She set up the range herself and is a woman on a mission. I had the chance to meet her at the Press Day and she was so down to earth and inspirational. I could feel the passion, hard work and the excitement literally radiating from her about Cocoa Brown and what the future holds. Cocoa Brown isn’t even 3 years old yet but has taken the beauty and tanning world by storm. They were the official tanning partner of the Oscars and Marissa has gone from a Dublin Beauty Salon owner to a successful business woman.
Before jumping in with the longer lasting tan I decided to give the Lovely Legs Spray a go. I thought it was the least scary option and if it was terrible it would wash off. Good times. So I read the instructions which were incredibly simple. Cocoa Brown recommends that you prepare your skin by exfoliating and moisturising any particularly dry bits. Shake the can for 20 seconds and spray onto a tanning mitt and buff on to your legs. Sounded easy enough. Time to rock and roll.
I have to put my hands up and give you guys a little confession. I did start my tan myself, but to make sure I didn’t miss any bits I asked Mr C to come in and rub me up. He didn’t mind to be honest and actually did a pretty good job. I did do numerous twirls in the mirror to make sure every spot had been covered. The great thing about this wash off tan is that it goes on dark so you can see where you have covered. Less chance of streaks and missed patched. It buffed on to the skin really well and I love the fact it’s instant. No need to hide my legs!
I have to say there was no dodgy smell (hooray) and when I did have a shower that night it did just wash off with war soapy water. (Amazingly, it’s resistant against the rain so British weather can do whatever it feels like!) It has definitely made me want to try the 1 hour tan which is longer lasting. I have it ready to go, and it’s definitely next on the list. If Lovely Legs was this easy I have no doubt that Cocoa Browns 1 hour tan will be my new best friend.
I have to say that there really weren’t any streaks or missed spots. I was expecting to look at the back of my legs to see stripes, but no, it was perfect. It blended perfectly (for reference I also used a Cocoa Brown tanning mitt). It’s quite a deep tan, but I love the bronze colour. It really didn’t come out orange but a more suntanned shade, for me it was pretty close to the shade my skin usually goes when I’ve flashed the flesh on holiday.
For people new to tanning or those who want to instantly tan and save time or just the occasional tanner, this is brilliant. I know what it’s like to feel brave enough to get your legs out, you have the perfect dress but you wish you had just come back from a summer break to have that naturally lovely glow. Well this is an instant tanning fix and one that you can’t go wrong with. Buff on and wash off. Lovely Legs is a definite summer essential.
You can keep up to date with Marissa and the exciting times of Cocoa Brown on Twitter Here. You can also purchase the range at FeelUnique and Superdrugs. Lovely Legs Spray is currently £8.99 and the Cocoa Brown tanning mitt is £2.99.
