Although I absolutely believe that beauty is only skin deep, I definitely feel better when I have been looking after my skin. I know that massive long self-care routines aren’t always an option and if you’re anything like me 8 glasses of water a day feel like such a chore; so it can be hard to keep your skin in tip-top condition. That said, I have found a quick, easy routine that seems to be working for me. Personally, I hate when the skin on my face is dry and feels tight, so my main motivation was just eradicating this – and the fact that a decent cleansing routine also helps my face look good is a bonus!

Creating a Routine

For me, routine is definitely helpful when it comes to cleansing my skin. I know that if I just do it as and when, I’ll invariably forget and then before I know it a day or two has gone by and I’m out of the habit. Running a busy home and juggling work is hard, but I try to make sure I take 10 minutes out of the day, just before bed to make sure I take off my make-up, wash my face property and give it a good cleanse. That time of day works well for me, as the house is usually a little less chaotic and it also helps me relax before bed.

Do I Need Expensive Products?

It isn’t about expensive products, but it is about finding the ones that work for you. We all have different skin types and so the products we need, especially for our faces varies. It is a good idea to read up on some skin care advice to work out what skin type you have and what would work best for you. Before adding a new product to your skincare routine, make sure that the ingredients are hypoallergenic so you can avoid skin irritations in advance. Depending on your skin type, you can find the right product on the natural skincare shelf. For those who have oily skin, lotions that contain aloe vera can be a good choice as it gently removes excess oil and keeps the skin’s natural barrier. However, pure goat milk soaps can help those who have dry skin by cleansing it and replacing natural fatty acids that are lacking, causing dehydration and dryness.

I have found that using a face cleanser that doesn’t dry out my skin works best for me. I’ve experimented with a few, but currently, I’ve heard that Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser works well for skin such as mine. It’s quite a classic product and has been around for a while, which I guess means they know what they’re doing, right?

What Works For Me

So, of an evening I have found that giving my face a good wash and removing any makeup is a good start. Then I dry my face and use the Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser and give this a good rub over my whole face – I don’t spend ages on it, but it’s definitely not a process that is rushed. I use a good quality reusable cotton pad and throw it in the wash when I am done – so the next day I can use a clean one and I’m not transferring day old dirt back onto my face.

This leaves me feeling all fresh and ready for bed. I usually end with a decent quality moisturiser, a change into some comfys and then hop into bed for a quick scroll of Instagram before I hopefully go to sleep – if one of the kids doesn’t decent they need a drink, wee, snack, toy, chat, cuddle…. Before I manage to drift off.
