Big things give us big bumps in happiness. The excitement of planning for a holiday, planning a wedding, preparing for a baby. And no one can deny that those things are amazing. But those big bumps of happiness aren’t the key to everyday joy.
It’s the simple things like the sun making your favourite flower look amazing, the smell of your favourite meal cooking, seeing friends on a Sunday morning.
It’s the little parts of everyday life that give us a steady level of what we consider to be happiness.
Small things can often be more meaningful long term, and that is why they are so integral to our overall happiness.
Music
Your favourite music can give you such a boost. Singing along to the songs of your teenage years brings nostalgia and joy, and that can be contagious. If you don’t already listen to music, try creating a playlist of songs that you used to love.
Dance around the kitchen, or move however you want. If you have children then let them join in with you – because who doesn’t love a kitchen dance party?
Smile
Even on the days we don’t feel like smiling, a smile can trick our brains into giving us a little boost of happiness. Not everyone loves their smile though, and if you want to be more confident in yours, then check out ALIGNERCO to see if it is a suitable option.
There is a lot of joy to be had in making other people smile too, even smiling at a stranger as you passby can change their day and make you feel good too.
Hobbies
Doing something that you love is one of the most simple ways to bring yourself some everyday happiness. Look at how you spend your down time, and is there something that you’d prefer to be doing?
When we indulge in our hobbies, not only do we learn things (which boosts our confidence) but we get a little bump in happiness every time we do it.
If you don’t have a hobby, or keep finding reasons to not take part in yours, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for to get started, or get back to it.
Nature
Humans are designed to feel relaxed and refreshed in nature. Even something as simple as watching nature programs or movies will reduce stress levels and increase happy feelings. It is partly because nature is beautiful, but studies are showing that we physically and mentall change and become more healthy when we see nature.
Aside from that, nature has an impact on our creativity and can make us feel more creative and is perfect for starting those hobbies.
Doing Good
When you do something good for someone, donate money or time, or show up when someone needs you – you feel good about it. Doing good has the ability to make you feel great for having a purpose and supporting something, and it makes the person or organisation feel good too. A great way to double down on your happiness.
