No offence to any Scarborough residence, but the name doesn’t shout excitement, does it? I almost imagine cloudy skies and rain. BUT guess what? Scarborough is a fab place to visit. Even if it is a bit wet, that’s just British weather. Here are 5 reasons to visit Scarborough and I bet you didn’t know it was such a great tourist destination.
Alpamare Waterpark
One of the UK’s largest water parks that will fulfil your adrenaline tanks and provide you with hours of fun. With pools and slides galore there something for every kind of adventurer. We’re fans of the infinity pool because we could convince ourselves we’re actually somewhere warm in Europe!
The Best Hotels
Scarborough is full of wonderful places to stay. But the best hotels in Scarborough are the ones just outside of it that give you access to Scarbrough, Whitby and some beautiful clifftop views. It means you can enjoy so much more when you plan to visit. There’s nothing like exploring and staying a little more out the way lets you do lots of that. It also means you get some of the best views too!
Scarborough Market Hall
Yorkshire has a huge array of markets to visit which is always an absolute pleasure. One of the best is the Scarborough Market Hall. It’s undergone £2.7m renovation but still holds all of its historic treasures. You’ll find everything from fresh local Yorkshire food to antique jewellery and hand made goodies. It’s a lovely indoor place to visit especially when the weather is dreary. Well worth a visit.
North Bay Railway
The North Bay Railway is one of Britain’s most historic seaside miniature railways. Running since 1931 the railway gives you stunning views of Scarborough’s North Bay, historic headland & Scarborough Castle. It’s a ¾ mile journey and is a must-do.
The Beaches
We know that UK beaches can be hit or miss. But the Scarborough Bay Beach has been given a blue flag for its cleanliness, facilities and safety. You’ll find people surfing and doing other water sports which is always fun to watch and in the warmer months it’s great for full days out with the family. You don’t have to go abroad to have a good day at the beach!
