Over the past 12 months, more of us than ever are working from home. For some, this is a temporary measure and for others, it is something that is likely to continue much more long term, even if only on a flexible basis. If you are planning to work from home for the foreseeable then propping your laptop on your lap while sitting on the sofa or taking over the dining room table might not be a practical solution. That said, just because we know we need a home office space doesn’t mean we have the funds to make that happen, or the option to move home to a bigger place.

Creating Work Space

I have been considering the options for creating somewhere to work from home that is a little more permanent and feels a little more like a workspace. For me, it is always good to feel like I am in the zone and ready to work – which is much more possible when I’m not surrounded by a mountain of toys and Peppa Pig on the TV.

Extending our home wasn’t an option for us, but I did come across garden offices which if you have some outdoor space look perfect. The idea behind a garden room is exactly how it sounds – a room in your garden! You can use this room for any purpose you want but for us, an office space away from the house would be the perfect solution.

Being able to work in a quiet space, but also be able to have some form of organisation with projects I am working on, paperwork being stored somewhere safe and just know that my work is all in one place in an excellent idea. Being organised is key when working from home, but not always possible when you’re trying to juggle everything and make it work within a busy household.

Choosing a Garden Room

The good thing about choosing a garden room is that there are so many options out there. Generally speaking, a garden room isn’t a one-sized fits all approach, because we all have different needs and different space available. Bespoke options mean that everyone can have the exact room they need – an office space, a playroom or even just extra storage! Whatever you need, you’ll be able to find a garden room set-up that suits you. Cost-wise they are reasonably affordable, especially when you compare then to the cost of a home extension or other options to create more space in your home.

Making Your Garden Room Feel Like Home

Whatever office space you create for yourself, you should do what you can to make it feel like home. We spend a good few hours a day working so it makes sense that you want your office to feel somewhere comfortable and that you’re happy to spend time in. Get some photos on the wall, funky stationery and a nice rug and create yourself a beautiful garden room that you can use to work from home long-term.
