Taking care of a family is not easy. There is so much going on all the time. You have the 9 to 5, you have housework, you have your children’s needs and a partner to love and cherish, you also have a social life you’d like to nurture too, and then there is yourself. It is too easy in this world to get stressed out and begin feeling overwhelmed. However, sometimes you need to take a little step back and try and put things into perspective. No one can do everything, no matter how much they pretend they can, and you are no different.

Create a Manageable Schedule

Instead of worrying about everything all the time, create a manageable schedule that you should stick to. Stick odd jobs that need doing on the schedule too. The more manageable your life is, the more time you will have for yourself and the family. Do not overload yourself and start saying no to things that we really have you up against it. Declining invites and telling someone you cannot do them a favor is not rude, it is a good self-care discipline. You want to avoid rushing about too much. The more manageable your life, the less stressed you will be, and you will sleep better too.

One-to-ones

No matter how busy your day is, always find ten minutes at the very minimum to sit and talk to each of your children. These ten minutes are precious and allow you to understand your child, show them you care and that you have their back., Make sure you listen to them and ask questions about their life. It may be a good idea to do this at bedtime when they are tired, and their defenses are down. That way, they are more likely to be honest.

Look After Yourself

Try and get as much exercise as is humanly possible. This may include things like playing games with the kids. Not only are you getting a bit of physical exercise, but you are also spending time with the children, which is a must. Also, develop good healthy eating habits, which you can also bestow as a good housekeeping model for the children.

Time Out

You can have time out just for you, a warm bath to relax and destress is a great example. Or you could have date nights with your partner. Remembering that you have a partner and caring for them is also essential for maintaining a healthy family. Perhaps you could buy them gifts every now and again, such as Kenzo for Men, just to show that you notice everything they do and that they are important too.

Plan Days OutIt may be difficult during the week, but you could look to have an activity day where the whole family gets involved at weekends. There are so many ways you can enrich your children and your and your partner’s lives by visiting new places and enjoying being with each other. It is not all work and stress. It can be fun and happy. Laugh and hug and remember to enjoy each other.
