Being sustainable in our daily lives is crucial in 2021. As the climate crisis continues to cause weather changes and we are greeted daily with news about our effect on the planet, it has never been more important to make the changes we can to reduce our impact on the earth.

It can be tough to know where and how to start when it comes to sustainable living. Fortunately, a few simple changes that any household can make will massively cut down on their emissions and impact the environment.

Eat Less Meat

You don’t have to go vegan to make a big difference in how your diet impacts the environment – though it can help significantly. Simply cutting down on the amount of meat your household consumes can make a big difference. Beef, in particular, can be incredibly high in emissions compared to other meats.

You could start with one or two meat-free days per week. Do some research into the different types of vegetarian and vegan meals you could make and experiment to find recipes your family loves. You could then progress to even more meat-free days or even commit to vegetarianism or veganism for the long haul.

Turn Things Off

Electronics left on standby can use energy needlessly. Not only is this bad for the environment, but it can also rack up your electricity bills. When not in use, it is best to ensure that your electronics are switched off at the wall or at the very least completely turned off.

Choose Fashion Retailers Wisely

Fast fashion is a significant factor in plastic pollution, waste and emissions. Instead of buying clothes made to be used and discarded, it is best to invest in fashion that will stand the test of time and are made using sustainable, ethical materials.  You should research retailers before you use them, particularly if buying online. Find fashion retailers that are committed to sourcing their fabrics sustainably and create high-quality pieces that will last. Get Your Food Delivered

Instead of taking the car to go and do your weekly shop, consider getting your food delivered instead. The more people who get food delivered, the fewer cars are driving individually to shops, meaning lower emissions. Selecting your food shop online in advance can also help to reduce impulse buying and hungry shopping, meaning that you will spend less and waste less food.

Change Your Energy Supplier

You could consider switching energy suppliers to one that provides renewable only energy. This can be a fantastic way to offset your impact on the planet. It can help to do some research into the renewable energy suppliers in your area and find the one that offers the best rates.

It is worth noting that sustainable energy suppliers can sometimes be more costly than traditional energy suppliers, but it is worth it for the reduction in your carbon footprint.
