Moving house can be a stressful time. From informing family, bills keep coming in, most have work to deal with, and – at least if you live in the UK – the weather is horrible. It’s never an easy time to move house/ So how can you mitigate this? Here are five little pick-me-ups to help you de-stress quickly – even if you only have five minutes to spare.

Movers and Packers

Rule number one of moving house is to find an affordable Removal Service that’s also reliable. When you have a good removals service, you’ll find that everything feels so much more stress-free. They’ll pack all your belongings, unassembled and reassemble everything and sometimes even store things for you. It’s the hardest part of most house moves, so if someone can do the hard work for you – and do it well – then that’s one massive worry off your mind!

Do yoga

Healthy body, healthy mind. Yoga does double duty. On the physical side, it stretches your body, boosts circulation, and strengthens your core (helping to reduce aches and pains). On the mental side, its focus on being aware of your body and incorporating the breath with movement has a number of stress-busting benefits. Most notably, it’s linked with decreased levels of the primary stress hormone cortisol. Because of yoga’s meditative qualities, it can decrease stress significantly more than other activities which burn the same amount of calories. If you’re looking for a quick fix to stress, add a few mins of yoga into your daily routine to help when big life events like moving house happen.

Listen to music

Sometimes, you just need a little burst of joy. Listen to your favourite song (if it makes you want to smile when you hear it, you know you’re onto a winner), have a dance (even if it’s just in your chair), and feel that positive energy flow. Bet you don’t feel as stressed now.

Change your environment

Switching things up can help, too. If you’re going stir-crazy at your desk… there might not be much you can do, sorry. If you’re going stir-crazy and you work from home, though, try working in a different room, in a coffee shop, or simply putting down the laptop and getting some sunshine. (this also works if you’re a full-time parent and the kids are driving you up the wall! Going somewhere different can keep them entertained for longer, and – crucially – keep you sane for longer, too).

Do breathing exercises

If you don’t have the time or the mobility for a full-on yoga sesh, you can still reap plenty of positive benefits with some simple breathing exercises – just the act of breathing slowly and deeply can help to de-stress your body and create a sense of calm. Every little helps.
