Many people are currently struggling with money, what with the pandemic and all. If you’re looking for ways to cut down on your expenses so that you can save more money or stretch your income as far as possible, the tips in this post will help you do that.

The best thing about them is that they are pretty easy to do and will not require you to make a lot of sacrifices. If this sounds like something you’ll want to try, read on.

Check Out Clearance Sales

You don’t know this, but chances are your favourite retail store has some clearance sales or shopping deals going on right now. So check their online store to see if there are any clearance sales or any deals that you can take advantage of.

Clearance sales are a great way to save a lot of money on things that you need. Depending on when you catch the sale, you may be able to get discounts as high as 80 percent.

This means that if a pair of jeans typically costs £20, you could end up buying it for £4 or buying five pairs of jeans for the same price of £20. Also, remember to buy in bulk whenever there’s the opportunity. This particularly applies to food items, groceries, and children’s clothing.

Always Have a Shopping With a List

How many times have you gone shopping for a couple of items only to come back with a bag full of things you never planned to buy? Pretty sure it’s happened to you a few times. The reality is unplanned grocery shopping is a huge money pit.

It’s worse when you don’t go with a list. Not having a list means that you’re more likely to buy more items than you need. The average department or convenience store is designed to encourage you to buy more stuff.

The only way to fight that and save yourself a lot of money is by shopping with a list. And when you go shopping, remember to do it all at once. Many families do their grocery shopping once a week. This not only gives them time to identify what they really need but also helps them save petrol.

Find Ways to Lower Your Electricity Bills

Your electricity usage is often highest during the summer and the winter. Many homes often need air conditioning to stay cool, particularly during the heat waves. This directly translates to higher electricity bills during the summer.

However, you can easily cut down on the use of the air conditioning by only using the AC in rooms that are occupied, keeping the windows and drapes closed, and blocking all sources of the draft.

You can also subscribe for cheaper electricity from community solar initiatives. This is electricity generated on solar farms and sent to the utility company for distribution to interested consumers. Most plans offer a 10 percent monthly discount on electricity costs.

Don’t Buy Appliances That You’ll Only Use Occasionally

Do an appliance audit and decide on those that you need to use very frequently –at least once a week, and those you don’t use frequently. Skip buying the latter, and instead borrow them from friends, neighbours, and family members who have them. For example, instead of buying a grill, you can always borrow it from people who have one. And if you must buy it, make sure it’s on your kitchen wishlist. Then wait until it’s cheaper. This is an effective way to save more money.
