Do you feel like you’re not in control of your life? Sometimes we can feel that life throws us in certain directions. And it becomes apparent when we have to stick to a routine for the benefit of our children it could be to the detriment of our happiness. And while we love our kids there can be times when we feel that we are plodding through life on autopilot. Sometimes we have to truly take ownership of our life so we can get things that we want. But what can we do to get on this road?
Learning To Stop Blaming
When we’ve got numerous (perceived) failings in our lives it’s so easy for us to blame others. And as much as we’d like to look into a crystal ball or consult a horoscope to see exactly what will happen next, when something occurs that we didn’t plan for, it feels like kicking us when we are down we end up blaming everything else. Some people believe in the idea of good luck and bad luck but if you feel that you are constantly hitting a brick wall and getting knockback after knockback it’s important for you to take a step away from the situation. You need to look at assessing your own contribution. Is it really to do with any external circumstances? It’s so easy for us to blame external components because this stops us taking ownership. But what happens is that the habits of these thoughts become automatic. It then becomes a part of who we are and it’s more difficult to escape from.
Learning To Adapt
If you want to take control over something you’ve got to remember that there is always a solution to a problem. It’s just that the solution may not be as obvious as ones that have come before. Sometimes we can forget that, as humans, we are incredibly malleable creatures. We can learn to adapt to almost any situation. And when there is something important to you in life and there’s an obstacle getting in your way you need to to look at how you react to these bumps in the road. If you think that you can’t do something, learn to flip the language on its head. This is where something like cognitive behavioural therapy is very beneficial. It teaches us the tools of problem-solving from within. If we feel that we can’t do something our brain receives this message and makes it a reality. And a big game-changer for people who are going through any sort of therapy is realising that the brain is physically unable to tell the difference between what is real and what is imaginary. If you are then able to feed your brain information that you are confident or happy, your brain will start to manifest these emotions. We aren’t built one way- we are able to adapt! As soon as we get this into our heads we can accomplish so many different things.
Learn The Art Of Practising Healthiness And Happiness
You are responsible for your mind and body, no one else can be. This means that when you are feeling the pressure of normal everyday life it’s your responsibility to take ownership of those aspects of life that you can control. Learning to practice healthiness and happiness is about treating your body as if it is a temple. When we feel low in the pecking order, especially in a family dynamic, we begin to view ourselves as unimportant and this means that we treat ourselves accordingly. But if you can start to focus on keeping yourself either in shape or pinpointing the exact things that make you feel anxious or upset you can develop certain everyday habits that will keep you even-keeled. Most people feel that they can’t start the day without a coffee but what if you want to add something extra to it? Having 10 minutes of peace and quiet with your coffee could give you the opportunity to sit by yourself and prepare yourself for the day. And the great thing about these little habits is that they become a form of self-preservation. It may only be 10 minutes but it’s 10 important minutes that can rejuvenate you and once we start to build these habits into our lives, when they are taken away, we soon notice!
Learning to take control of our lives is about understanding that it’s only ourselves that we do have control over. Once you start to realise that, you can take the power back, and everything shifts into focus. This could be all that you need to feel that enthusiasm for life once again. When we have so many other things that are more important than us we can forget about self-care. Taking ownership of our lives is the biggest statement we can make to ourselves.
