There is no denying that the last couple of years has had an effect on us all, and whilst I am not saying that things are over (I know for many people they are not) I do know that 2022 is the year that we all deserve to take care of ourselves and feel as good as we can. So, today I wanted to share with you some mental health tips for 2022, but if you have any of your own please feel free to share them below too! I know that when it comes to feeling good everyone is different so as many tips getting shared as possible can only be a good thing!

Be Honest
One of the biggest issues with mental health is that it can still sometimes feel like a taboo to talk about. We’re fine with admitting that we have hurt our leg or are experiencing headaches but when it comes to not feeling mentally our best it can be hard to admit – but this never helps. Even though it can feel like a scary thing to do, make sure that you reach out to people around you that you love and trust and tell them how you are feeling. They’’ll not always have the answers or be able to offer a fix, but it will feel less of a burden once you start speaking openly about how you are feeling.
Learn To Say No
We live busy lives and this can often be as a result of not feeling as though we can’t say no to anything that is asked for us. The truth is that there are many things we feel obliged to do that aren’t obligations at all. If there is something you’re invited to but you don’t feel up to it, or you just need a night at home to recharge your batteries then don’t be afraid to say no and put yourself first instead.
Dare To Say Yes
On the flipside of this it can be hard to say yes to things when you just feel like hibernating at home and doing nothing. This can sometimes be good for you, but sometimes it can be isolating and not help with the feelings of loneliness. Where you feel able to it can be good to challenge yourself to say yes to dinner with friends or an invitation to watch a film with someone you care about – it doesn’t have to be anything major but a change of scenery and a couple of hours in the right company can do wonders for how you are feeling.
Look After Yourself
Looking after yourself comes in different shapes and sizes for everyone so there is no straight answer. What you should do is learn what looking after yourself looks like and take some time out to do this where possible. This could be in the shape of having a bath, walking the dog, going to the gym or simply sitting at home and watching a film. Just something that is for you, that you love and can find the time to do. It might be an immediate answer to fixing how you feel, but taking some time out to look after yourself can certainly help take the pressure off – which in the grand scheme of things can really help with how you are feeling.
Get Help If You Need It
Of course, much like a broken bone there are going to be times when just resting and looking after yourself isn’t enough and there is absolutely no shame in this. Sometimes talking to a professional is what is needed & that is something that you should do as soon as you are able. The good news is that there are a range of private psychiatry services for you to choose from which means that finding someone to help you should not be too much of a challenge. You’ll want someone that is able to carry out an initial assessment and then talk you through the treatment plan that is going to work for you.
