Whenever the “What should I wear?” question pops up, you immediately feel the need to get new clothes and change your fashion style. But, with all the responsibilities you have, it seems trying to improve your style is more of a luxury. There is no need to fret; there are several ways you can be more stylish without overspending. Listed below are a few.

  1. Do not buy something for one occasion

When you have an exciting event to attend, you might be tempted to buy a special outfit for the occasion. The problem with this is, after the event, you may not be able to wear to another one, which means that you would have to keep buying more clothes for more events- spending more money.  To avoid this, get into the habit of versatile outfits. Get clothes suitable for a wedding and christening, or an outfit you can wear to an elegant dinner and a charity gala. You should go for a more classic style than one which is trending so you can confidently wear it at any time and not feel like you are outdated.

  1. Buy clothes that fit and suit you

Perhaps, dropping a size was a part of your New Year resolutions- and you think the best way to motivate yourself is to buy the clothes of your desired size. Or, you simply purchased an outfit that would not fit just because it was on sale. This is not a good idea, especially if you are on a budget. The odds are quite slim that you would get the chance to wear the attire that is too big or small on you, and you would have wasted money. Fashion trends are ever-changing, and quite often you might make your purchase based on these trends, or based on how someone looked in it. When shopping, especially on a budget, you should select attires that suit you. If you do not like how you look in it, you will not wear it- there goes money you could have spent on something you wanted.  Remember that being stylish is to have a unique style that makes you confident and comfortable.

  1. Have a clothes swap with your friends

If you have a mini Gigi Hadid, Zendaya, or style gurus in your circle of your friends, then thank the style gods! Create a “one-in, one-out” policy in which you swap clothes you have not worn in a while with the outfits they are tired of, but you have wanted to get your hands on. This is an excellent way of getting more stylish things at an affordable price- well, in this case, for free. You can do this by hosting a clothes-swapping party, where you either swap with your entire group of friends or just one person.

  1. Look for affordable brands

Sticking to a budget means ditching your more expensive brands and discovering new affordable ones. When you are used to shopping with a particular brand, not only are you at risk of being stuck in a style rut but also forced to purchase their items even when they are not friendly to your budget. Discovering more brands would help you find a range of more affordable options to choose from. Looking for affordable brands does not mean you should buy bootleg brands. Do not buy the faux designer bags and shoes. You want to be stylish on a budget, not to try to impress people by giving them a false sense of your purchasing power.

  1. Invest in accessories

Accessorising has a lot to do with your style, and as compared to the other components, they are cheaper. Adding accessories completes your look. So, consider investing in a watch or necklace, an affordable pair of earrings, or a bracelet. You can even accessorise your phone to add to your style! Your phone goes everywhere with you; it is only fair that it complements your look.  Get some phone accessories or even have it customised, for example, Pixa Prints offers some good personalised phone case designs which you can try..

  1. Try DIY ideas

Pinterest and YouTube are loaded with DIY fashion ideas for old clothes. You can turn an old pair of leggings into a cute long-sleeved off-shoulder crop top, or an old hoodie into a cute two-piece outfit. Most of these ideas need nothing but a pair of scissors and some good old threads and needles. Creating new clothes from your old ones is an excellent budget-friendly way of being stylish.

  1. Know your items

Before you say “duh,” it is quite common to forget what you already own. Knowing your wardrobe keeps you from spending money on items you already have. So, before you go out shopping, be sure that you have decluttered your closet. Take out the things that no longer fit or that you no longer wear out to see what you need, or need to replace.

There is no need to break the bank to stay classy and stylish. These seven tips will get you looking your best without spending more than you can afford to.
