As the stress and pressure mounts on the build up to exam results day, you may notice your child showing signs of anxiety. Waiting to see their final grades can be a tense time for students.
To show your support and help your child handle those results day nerves, Mount House School share some helpful tips for parents…
Keep them busy
Whether it’s a shopping trip, a night in watching movies or a holiday, make sure your child has an event to look forward to. This will also help them to relax and give them a chance to forget about their upcoming exam results.
Be there to talk
Talking to your child about how they are feeling can help to reduce pressure and relieve stress. Try to stay positive and calm and reassure your child that they still have options, no matter what grades they get. You could also research some relaxation techniques and practice these together to help them feel calmer.
Be prepared
It’s important to make a back-up plan ahead of your child’s results day, just in case they don’t get the grades they were hoping for. Have a look at what options will be available to your child after their exams. Being fully prepared to give your child the best advice will be really reassuring.
Focus on effort
When your child is worrying about their exam results it is important to try and turn their focus onto their effort instead. Remind them of how hard they have worked this year.
All children want to make their parents proud, so be sure to let them know before their results, that you are proud of them, no matter what.
