Ah, retirement – that’s the dream isn’t it? As much as I love working & the fact-paced life, I do have to admit that I am looking forward to a time when I can put my feet up a little and relax. I guess I see retirement as brunch with friends and a bit of pottering around in the garden; it probably isn’t like that at all in reality but what a nice dream to have?

Age Co have been looking at different places that people retire to and what they offer those of retirement age. Some of the places on the list include Ballycastle in Northern Ireland and Pembrokeshire in England. There are some beautiful spots up and down the UK, so no matter where you might fancy settling down, there will be something to suit you. To be honest, I haven’t thought that far ahead but now the boys are getting older, I’m really starting to think about that period of life a bit more. I want us all to be as comfortable as possible, and enjoy as much of our life as possible!

Choosing Where to Retire
If you’re in a lucky position to be able to pick where you retire, it is nice to know that there is plenty to choose from. You may find that certain areas are more popular within retirement ages, which means that meeting new people with similar interests could be easier. Of course, the price of the property will make a difference to where you’re able to retire to if you’re a homeowner.
For example, buying a house in Carmarthen Wales will cost you on average £173,203 whereas Abersoch, also in Wales will set you back on average £494,778. It might be nice to dream of where you would like to retire, but the practical side does need to come into it too. I’ve considered moving cities even now just to afford a cheaper home but then again, being close to family is priceless, right?
Planning Your Retirement
As much as I might dream of a chilled life, I haven’t yet planned for my retirement. That said, it is good to know that places such as Ageco have got us well looked after, with lists of where we could retire to & what each place brings.
