No one’s saying that slim girls never have a fashion fail. In fact, hardly a day goes by where a blogger, celebrity, or your friend steps out and wonders ‘did I get dressed in the dark today?’ As they think their OOTD, or outfit of the day looks so hideous not even Lady Gaga would wear it, and she’s worn a dress made of meat! Sadly, plus size girls tend to get more criticism because clothes express not only who we are but who we aspire to be.
Feeling Uncomfortable
Please, for the sake of your own happiness don’t feel like you need to wear something tight, edgy or on trend such as a pinafore dress just to prove a point. It’s great to show creativity, but only if it’s going to accentuate the bits, you like not highlight those you don’t. Following a trend is fun but don’t feel like you need to be a slave to the style section, if you don’t like something then skip it and move onto something else. Similarly, if you love something that everyone else hates don’t be afraid to be different. Unfortunately, lots of curvy girls struggle to buy clothes because they just don’t know how to dress for their shape. A great place to start would be to figure out your body type i.e. if you’re an apple or pear and go from there!
Hiding Who You Are
The same thing goes for if you’ve been dressing in the opposite way and hiding your gorgeous figure under layers, and layers of fabric. While you may think you’re doing a great job in looking slimmer, those baggy jeans and T-shirts aren’t doing you any favours. Look through plus size fashion guides and pick clothes that skim the body, highlighting your great cleavage, hourglass silhouette or long, tanned legs. Pay attention to the fabrics you’re wearing too as lace, polyester, cotton and lycra are all stretchy fabrics as opposed to wool, chiffon, and silk. Dresses that have hidden elasticated waists or jeggings that have no zip or fastening may fit better than those with lots of buttons.
Wearing Just Black
Whoever told women that ‘black is slimming’ ought to be made to wear it for their rest of the lives then see how happy they are! While black does make you look more svelte so do other dark colors like chocolate browns, midnight and navy blues. Not to mention elegant grays and silvers that look gorgeous too. Don’t be afraid of bright colors either! Bright blues, berry reds, and glamorous greens can look fantastic on larger ladies so don’t just confine color to your accessories.
Getting Hung Up On Size
Ever heard the saying ‘beauty is only skin deep?’ Stop fretting if you’re a size 14, 16 or 18 and focus on living your life because the people who love you don’t care. It might also interest you to know that ‘vanity sizing’ i.e. making clothes bigger or smaller to make women spend more, as well as being a different dress size in each store because manufacturers use a range of charts.
