We live in a lovely house but it’s not ours. Unfortunately, it’s rented which means we’re limited on what we can and can’t do. I do love our house though; it’s definitely a home and we’d probably buy it if we ever had the chance (and the money!). But there are some improvements we’d make to it to make it absolutely perfect. (If that’s even possible because we always move the goalposts don’t, we?). So, here are 5 home improvements we’d love to make.

Flooring

We do have really nice wood flooring in the front room and dining room but I would definitely change it. I’d get some lighter engineered wood flooring instead. It’s great for the family because we can keep it cleaner for longer and there are so many options available I’m sure we’d find the perfect shade. We want everything to look as bright and light as possible and changing the floor feels like one of the largest changes we can make.

Walls

I’ve mentioned it before. But why do landlords paint everything magnolia? We have very nice landlords. But we are not fans of magnolia… is anyone? So my plan is to paint everything white. Everything. It might not be very practical with children around, and that’s why we haven’t done it yet. But I have the paint ready to go and within the next 6 months, I’ll be painting everything white. Why? Again, it just makes everything look bright and clean and is a great base for adding key décor elements. I feel like it’s a new start!

Bathroom

We have lovely tiles in our bathroom but for some reason, the bathroom just feels small. Compared to how big the rest of the house is, the bathroom feels super tiny. So somehow I would want to make the bathroom bigger… or at least make it look bigger. I’m not sure how we would do this, it would probably have to involve getting a professional in to help us design it. But this is definitely on our wish list.

Walk-in Wardrobe

Maybe not a walk-in wardrobe, but our spare room is on the verge of being a dressing room but it just needs more storage. It just needs to be tidied up a bit and I have so much I need to get rid of, including clothes that I need to drop off at the clothes bank. But my little treat to myself would be improving the spare room to turn it into a gorgeous, Instagram worthy dressing room. Because who wouldn’t want that?

Garden

I’ve never had a proper garden before and now I have. It is amazing! We feel so lucky to have our own green space and it makes such a difference to the boys. Our garden is lovely, with plants, decking and planters. But it’s a bit high maintenance with us. It really is! We’re keeping it maintained and we’ve fixed some things which have broken and slowly we’re getting on top of it. But I’ve definitely learnt that a garden is a high maintenance but then again if you start your garden from scratch, you know exactly what’s going on with it!

So let me just take a moment to manifest our dream home, our dream home improvements and generally our own home!
