When you are stuck for ideas for Christmas gifts, a jumper is a common go-to option. But a lot of people see it as a bit of a cop out and don’t think that it’s a very thoughtful gift. It’s seen as the next step up from buying socks, but it doesn’t have to be that way. If you put some thought into it, a jumper can actually be a great great gift. Here’s how to make a jumper a meaningful gift this Christmas.

Pay For Quality

If you pick up a cheap jumper made from scratchy material, that isn’t a great gift. It won’t be comfortable and it won’t last very long. However, if you spend a bit more on quality material and find a luxury jumper, that makes a much better gift. There are a lot of different types of jumpers you can buy, and the materials vary quite a lot. Sheep’s wool and cashmere are among the softest and most comfortable fabrics and they’re perfect for the Winter. Cotton is much lighter and it’s better for evening wear during the Spring and Summer.

You should also consider the fit of the jumper and what style best suits the person that you are buying for. A V-neck is the most common style for men, but if you want something a bit different, consider a turtleneck. Irish Aran jumpers are of brilliant quality and the style is great, so you should look for some Irish Sweater gifts this Christmas instead of picking up the first thing you can find. When you’re choosing a jumper, think about that person’s lifestyle. If they like spending a lot of time outdoors, a thick, durable jumper is best. Alternatively, look for something more stylish and less practical.

Make It Personal To Them

When you are trying to find the perfect gift for somebody, choosing something personal is always the way to go. So, think about ways that you can connect a jumper to something important to the person that you are buying for. For example, you could link it to one of their hobbies or their favourite sports team. Picking a design that means something to them shows that you put some thought into it and you didn’t just buy a jumper because you couldn’t think of anything else to get them.

Knit Your Own

If you want to make your gift extra special this year, why not knit your own jumper? If you don’t know how to knit already, it will take a bit of practice. However, it’s not as hard as you might think and after a few practice runs, you should be able to knit a nice sweater. You can choose the perfect colour and design to fit the person you are making it for, and they will be so impressed that you made it yourself. Even if you are not the best knitter in the world and there are a few imperfections in the jumper, the fact that it’s handmade still makes it a very meaningful gift.

Jumpers can be a boring cop out gift, but if you put some real thought into it and even consider making one yourself, they can be very meaningful.
