Decorating your little one’s bedroom is always a fun pursuit, but it’s important not to forget the lighting. This needs to be functional, of course, but it wouldn’t hurt for it to be fun and exciting at the same time. Lighting is often an afterthought when redesigning a room, but it’s actually just as important as the colours and furnishings. With lots to consider, here are three helpful tips.

1.    Consider Ambient Lighting

When natural light isn’t an option, like winter time or on an evening, overhead ceiling lights are a must. Your child needs to be able to see sufficiently when they’re playing, dressing or doing whatever it is they do in their bedroom. Ceiling lights come in many shapes and sizes, such as pendants or spotlights, so it depends on how much space there is and what suits the rest of the décor.

2.    Consider Task Lighting

Does your child like to read or draw in their bedroom? If so, a desk lamp might be a good option because it will help them see what they’re doing without straining their eyes. If space is limited, you could think about clip-on lamps that sit on the edge of the surface. If your child is a little older, they will need a desk lamp for homework and studying.

3.    Add an Element of Fun

There are lots of funky lights on the market that will add an element of fun and colour to your child’s room. It’s important that their bedroom brings their personality to life and isn’t too serious or boring. Try and make it a place that sparks their imagination and inspires them to play freely and creatively.
