Whatever your reason for being without a partner later in life, finding love at any age is possible. Whether you have had a long-term relationship before, concentrated more on your career or simply want to get out there and meet new people, dating over 50 is perfectly acceptable, and if you ask me, it should be actively encouraged.

There is something really lovely about being in partnership with someone you can trust and rely on the support of. If you’re someone who is used to being on your own, it can be tough to accept that help from someone else is beneficial, but trust me when I say that having someone to lean on is a fantastic thing. Anyone of any age should and can date. If you’re struggling to get out there, here are some things to remember.

You’re Worthy of Love

We can sometimes be too harsh on ourselves, and as someone living in an older body, this can be tough too. Although when we reach our 40’s we tend to care less about what other people think, so body confidence comes much easier. That said, letting someone else get to know our body, especially in an intimate way can be daunting.

The thing to remember is that you are worthy of love. You have a lifetime of experiences and your body will reflect that; what a privilege to be able to say that! By now, you’ll know that bodies come in all shapes and sizes and that everyone is worthy – so if you do meet a new partner, just remember that they’ll have the same knowledge.

Make Time For Dating

As grown-ups, we have probably already carved out busy lives for ourselves. It is easy to make excuses that you simply don’t have time for dating, or that you’re fine just as you are. The truth is that if you do want to meet someone new, you will have to make time for it in order to make that happen.

It doesn’t have to be lots of time and you don’t have to let the rest of the commitments in your life drop, but you will need to set aside some time to meet people. That said, you can also team this up with brand new experiences – no one says dating has to be boring! If there is something you have always wanted to do, but have been putting it off – why not tie that up with your next date and kill two birds with one stone.

Online Dating Tips

If you haven’t experienced online dating before, then it can seem scary – but it really isn’t. Most of us are used to using some sort of social media these days and really any dating app or website you sign up to will operate in a similar way. There are many different dating websites out there, so don’t be afraid to sign up for one or two and see how you get on.

Personally, I would spend some time creating a profile to gives a good indication of what you are looking for. Not everyone will be looking for the same type of dating or level of commitment as you, which is fine – it’s just better to iron out those details at the start. Choose a range of photos; I would suggest ones of just you and a couple of full-length ones if possible.

Many people use dating websites to browse and simply wait for people to message them. That is fine, but what if your soul-mate is waiting for someone to message them? You have absolutely nothing to lose by taking the plunge and sending the first message to someone – the worst they can say is no.

Take everything you read and receive on dating websites with a small pinch of salt. Most people will be genuine and exactly as they say, but much like people you might be when you’re on a night out, some people will be not quite what they seem.

There is no harm in taking time to get to know someone online before you decide to meet them – phone calls and even video calls are a great way of sussing out how genuine someone is.

Meeting People in the Real World

If you do decide to take the next step and meet someone, you should make sure you do safely. Even though you’re a grownup and have probably seen most things in your life, there is no harm in being cautious. Make sure someone knows who you are going to meet and where you are going to meet them. Never give out your address before you have met someone and consider them to be someone know you know and trust – always meet in a public place. Don’t forget to be confident, remember you’re an attractive person inside and out. Get a little confidence boost by using a new pheromones perfume or by getting a new outfit before you go. You’ve totally got this.

Adjusting To Someone New In Your Life

With any luck, over the past 50 years, you have created a life that you really love and are feeling fulfilled. This is great, but you do need to adjust and make space for someone if you want them to be in your life. Lots of this will be about communication and understanding of each other’s needs. If people have been single for a long time, they probably have their own routine and way of doing things. There is no right or wrong when it comes to this, but if you want to create something special with someone, you do need to speak to your new partner. Tell them what you’re finding difficult or what you might like them to do differently – and be open to listening when they come to you with the same issues. There isn’t much that can’t be sorted out with a little compromise and understanding.

Whatever your age, even if your later years, you are entitled to companionship, company and out-right soul-shaking love if that is what you’re looking for. Just remember, it might not just jump out at you, so don’t be afraid to get out there and find it. And, when you have found it, keep hold of it and enjoy every second – good luck!
