Often overshadowed by Mother’s Day, many of us make the mistake of not showing our dads how much we appreciate them when their day comes around. So this year, why not go out of your way to make them feel special by spending the day doing the things they love the most?

To really make the most of the day, there’s nothing better than a day-break, or even a weekend getaway to one of the most scenic areas in England, the Lake District. Book a Keswick hotel, and you’ll find yourself located close to endless different things to do and see. In need of some inspiration? Here is a taste of just some of the things you could get up to on Father’s Day, depending on what you and your dad like to do.

If Your Dad Loves the Outdoors

Famed for its stunning scenery and wide range of outdoor activities on offer, it’s safe to say that you’ll have plenty of things to choose from if you are planning to spend Father’s Day by getting back to nature with your dad.

For outdoor lovers, there are dozens of hiking routes to choose from, all of which include at least one of the famous fells in the area. If you and your dad are feeling up for the challenge, you could even spend the day by making your way to the summit of Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England.

Of course, that isn’t too say that there aren’t some more relaxed ways to spend your day if your dad is a lover of the outdoors. Wildlife spotting offers a far more chilled way to explore the natural beauty of the area. Located a short drive away from Keswick, Whinlatter Forest is home to a wide range of creatures, both big and small, for eagle-eyed explorers to try and spot.

If Your Dad is a Foodie

Whether he’s the king of the grill or cooks up a mean pasta dish from nothing, if your dad is a foodie, it makes sense to do something that celebrates his love of food and talent in the kitchen.

Now, the Lake District might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of fine dining, but there are plenty of well-established restaurants in the area, with one or two Michelin-starred establishments knocking around for good measure. Actually, that is downplaying the culinary reputation of the area as there are actually not one or two, but four Michelin-starred restaurants in the Lake District.

Depending on where you choose to stay, you can enjoy some world-class food with your dad. In Cartmel, you have the choice of dining at either L’Enclume or Rogan and Co; Windermere is home to the Michelin-starred HRiSHi at the Gilpin Hotel, and further up north you have the Forest Side Hotel in Grasmere.

If Your Dad Loves Sports

Dads and sports pretty much go hand in hand with most of us growing up in a household where football dominated the TV screen over the weekend. If you and your dad enjoy playing sports as much as you love watching the latest match together, then taking part in some of the more active outdoor pursuits the Lake District offers could be the perfect Father’s Day gift.

Seeing as it is famous for its many lakes and bodies of water, it makes sense to try out some watersports if you are spending Father’s Day in the area. From relaxing boat cruises and sailing opportunities to daring extreme watersports, you’ll be sure to find something that you and your dad will both enjoy. There are also kayaking, paddle boarding and windsurfing opportunities depending on where you are staying, so make sure you do some research about what’s nearby before you book your trip.
