Everyone gets a little disheartened when it comes to social media. Unless your body image conforms to the standards that everyone on Facebook and Twitter praises, you’re going to be laughed at, hate comments will spew forth from every angsty teenager’s keyboard and you’ll be harassed for doing what you love. Yet despite that, there are many people on social media and even whole communities that are dedicated to boosting your confidence and praising you for being yourself.
If you’re curious about social media and want to show off your life and fashion, then here are a couple of tips to help you swat away the haters and embrace your online persona.

Tip #1 – Be yourself

There’s no point going on social media if you want to assume the identity of someone else. Be yourself on social media and don’t try to do things outside of your comfort zone. Speak about your favourite clothes and hobbies, engage in conversations with others and comment truthfully on videos or pictures. However, it’s important that you try not to spark arguments. If someone is angry at you or is making fun of your image, then simply ignore them and move on.

Tip #2 – Deal with the bullies
Bullies are everywhere, but internet ones are particularly nasty and it can get out of control very quickly. Although many people will rush to defend you, there will be an equal number of people looking to make you feel horrible. Simply block these people and don’t bother with their nonsense. Don’t try to explain anything to them and don’t give them a chance. Simply click their profile, block them from ever showing up again and throw away the key—life’s too short to spend worrying about these people. Out of all the things in life to be worried about, bullies shouldn’t be on that list.

Tip #3 – Improve your profile

If you want to show something off, then it’s good to give people a good first impression. You can do this using a Facebook cover photo maker. It’s easy to design, you can use your own images as a base, and it will give people a fantastic and professional looking banner to look at for when they check out your profile page. There are lots of examples to look at as well in case you need some ideas.

Tip #4 – Join like-minded communities

The internet is a big place with a lot of people using it, so it’s only natural that people splinter off into groups and communities. If you’re unsure about communities to join, then do a search on Facebook to find like-minded people with who you can chat to and share things with. It’s an essential step in making a connection with people before you become friends, so make sure to do a bit of research and lurk around various communities or even subreddits so you know what type of people you’re talking with.

Tip #5 – Don’t get too absorbed
Social media isn’t everything. It’s a huge community of people that spans across the entire world, but that doesn’t mean you should be completely absorbed into it and forget your life outside of the internet. Even if the internet is full of nice comments that lift your spirits, never get carried away and remember to split your attention appropriately.
