Moving house is a big deal. It’s one of the most stressful things a person can do during their lifetime and no matter how big or small the move it, there’s so much to consider. From changing over bills and addresses to arranging deposits and changing addresses. The list is endless! Anything that can make a house move that little bit less stressful has to be worth it, surely? Many companies that offer a moving service also offer packing services, but do you really need something like this? Here are the pros and cons of using a packing service when moving to a new house.

Pro: Save Time
The biggest pro for using a packing service is that it saves you so much time. Usually, they’ll pop round and have a look at what you’re moving and work out what packaging materials you’ll need. Then when the big day is due, they’ll come around and basically pack your life away for you! From your clothes to your comic collection, they’ll wrap it, stack it and secure it before delivering it at your new home. You could be there overseeing it, you could be at work or finishing up those loose house moving ends. However, there is no double that using a packing service will save you some seriously previous time.
Con: Money
Of course, having an added service like this is going to cost extra than a standard service. You have to budget accordingly but you can get quotes before you sign on any dotted lines. You could also just ask them to pack up certain things to save you half the time and money. Most companies are flexible when it comes to what you want. So ask what they can do to fit your budget.

Pro: Easy Unpacking
If you’ve ever moved house and not used a professional packing service, you’ve probably started off super organised with labels on boxes, everything packed neat and tidy. Then by the 20th box, you’ve given up and the cups are in with your socks and your faux plant is in with the spoons! You’ve probably got paper cuts on every finger, sellotape stuck to your hair and broken boxes left right and centre. It’s a lot of work when you move house. When you use a packing service, they do exactly what they say on the box, the professionally pack all your belongings. They’ll pack them safely, with the correct packaging, in relevant boxes with labelling. So when it comes to unpacking, you’re all ready to go!
Con: Control
The one big thing that you let go of when you use s packaging service is the control. You no longer have a say on what’s coming to the new house, or if actually, you’d quite like to get that guitar back out for a last-minute sing-song. Usually, once you’ve handed over the job, they’ll get on with it. So any clearing out or embarrassing items, you should probably do before they get there. Because they will be found and they will be packed away. So pop your dirty clothes and any other personal bits in a bag in the car so they don’t come to light and ruin anyone breakfast!
When we have to move again, I’ll definitely be considering a packing service. I think it will save so much time and stress that it can really be worth the extra cost. Good luck with your move!
