I’m a big believer in continuously improving our homes, and ironmongery, as a vital part of any house, should be looked after. I know it’s easy to forget about ironmongery until a door handle stops working, or a door hinge starts creaking but please, give your ironmongery some much-needed attention. After all, it’s something that you use every day – can you imagine opening doors without door handles or safeguarding your belongings in our home without a door lock?

It’s incredible how something as small as ironmongery plays such an important role in our day-to-day. However, as Ironmongery Experts mention, “ironmongery is often overlooked and even sometimes pushed to the end of decorating projects.” It wasn’t until a few years ago that I started to pay attention to ironmongery and since then I’ve been hooked. It’s time for you to take some time to look at your ironmongery too!
Whether you are redecorating your home, moving into a new house, or simply changing up some bits in your place, it’s important to choose the right ironmongery. Kara Cox Interiors believes that “functionality is incredibly important when you’re selecting hardware. These pieces are actually the items you’ll touch the most in your home. So you want the pulls to feel good in your hand. You want the door knobs to turn smoothly for you or for handles to be big enough to grip.”

Style goes hand-in-hand with functionality. “Just as the right necklace can turn a simple dress into a fashion statement, a striking new set of knobs on an old cabinet, or vintage crystal doorknobs can bring a huge dose of style to your home with minimal expense.” Says interior designer Young Huh in USA Today Life.
Who said that you need to choose style over function or vice-versa when picking ironmongery? Nobody, that’s who. You can have fun with ironmongery! There are so many styles, designs and finishes to choose from that you can make any interiors stand out with the right piece of hardware. Plus, one of my favourite things about ironmongery is that there are no rules, you can be as creative as you would be with any other part of your décor – you can mix and match different finishes, you can have the same finish all around your home, you can layer modern and vintage styles…

Let Them Be Small also found a passion for ironmongery, mentioning that when she is walking around a new neighbourhood, she loves to admire front doors and the different pieces of ironmongery people choose for their entrance. I do the same! Is that strange?
