When the time comes for you to move from house to house – a lot of stress, unwanted, can arrive at your new doorstep. There are very few rules when it comes to moving home as everyone’s experience is going to be different. Your kids might be growing up and need more room, or they may have moved out – leading you to downsize and grab a comfier property. You might be immigrating to a new country to pursue your dreams, or you might be returning home to home comforts. Still, there are a lot of crossovers, no matter who you are and why you are moving. This list should cover a few key things before you move, to save you a lot of the stress that does come with moving home.

Number One – PACK!

Packing is synonymous with moving home. A new, fresh environment full of little and big boxes that say ‘this way up’ and ‘fragile.’ The key to moving home is packing early. Start with the keepsakes that aren’t needed and eventually start putting away the essentials. Do this as soon as possible to prevent stress and ensure that your home move doesn’t take long. Grab your packing boxes as soon as you can and be sure to recycle them, or reuse them when you are done with them. Put stuff in the boxes, seal them up and label them. Try not to open a box once it is sealed – for the sake of good organization.

Number Two – Tell People!

If you’re moving home incognito, you’re going to have social issues and it could be illegal. Let friends and family know with a quick text (this is handy as they might be free to help pack or move your goods on to your new surroundings. The legal side? You’ve got a responsibility to let your job, postal office and the government know where you will be living. This is for tax reasons mainly, but also for postage reasons – you need your mail! Also, it’s a good idea to let your utility providers know that you are moving – so that you don’t rack up bills at a property you aren’t even living at. In some cases, you might be liable – so do sort this out.

Number Three – Organize Removals!

Unless you are living out of a knapsack, you’ve packed a lot of things and it might be physically impossible to move them all in one trip by yourself. This is where having friends and family on hand to help can help you out. It’s also worth calling in the pros, so search around for best man with a van quotes to get a removal service on board – sort this out early.

Number Four – Prepare!

Your new home is going to have its own quirks – so check in with the current tenants to see how things work and take notes. At the same time, leave notes to describe your current house’s quirks – how to turn the heating on, where to leave rubbish. It makes it that little bit easier, and you’d appreciate it!
