I used to LOVE reading. Back in the day I could easily read a novel a day when I was on good form. Now I just about have time to read my text messages let alone a book. So I almost feel like it’s a little bit of indulgence. That probably explains why I always take a book on holiday. Some research recently carried out was quite interesting.
Opodo found three in four (78%) of people prefer reading paperbacks on holiday. To be honest, I thought things like kindles and e-books would be winning BUT I know why I choose books on holiday.

Firstly, you can take them to the beach or the pool and know that a little water damage isn’t going to ruin your holiday. Plus, it’s less likely that someone will steal the latest chick flick book if you leave it next to your towel. I’m pretty sure you’d feel less comfortable leaving your kindle on your sun bed!
Lukas Balter, destination expert at Opodo, commented: “Going on holiday is one of the only times in the year that we can unreservedly put ourselves first and do what makes us happy, so it’s no surprise to see people are so eager to pick up a good page-turner.
“Getting lost in a good book or few allows British holidaymakers to indulge in a total digital detox for a week or two.”
I couldn’t agree more!
