Whether you’re rented or have bought your own property, making the place you live to feel like home is essential. Feeling comfortable in the places we spend time is a must – why else would we display photos of loved ones on our office desk or carry them in our wallets? Home is where we spend most of our relaxation time so it’s important that it feels like us and is somewhere that we’re happy to spend time. A lot of the time this is about the touches we put on our property to make it feel like ours – here are some things that could help.
The Décor
Without a doubt, the décor and styling of your home should be one that feels like you – of course, this can’t always happen as soon as we move in but it should be a priority when we have time. Even if you have to do the decorating and style in stages, it will feel great to be moving towards a home that feels like ours. Don’t just concentrate on walls and carpets because there are plenty of other ways to jazz up a room. For example, have you ever considered how many styles of radiators are out there? I recently had a look at Trade Radiators and they have loads – I think that’s such a cool way to finish off a room in your own style, and it doesn’t even need to cost loads of money to do it!
The Finishing Touches
When the decorating is done, the fun really begins. I personally am always buying little trinkets and bits for the house; it’s like a never-ending project. Places like Asda have some great affordable pieces so I can pick them up in the weekly shop. The little bits and pieces you place around your home are a personal thing but for me, I like to have lots of photos displayed. Our home is full of love and I want what is on display to reflect that. The great thing about things like this is that you can change them all the time, photos can be updated and wall art can be swapped for something else – so your home can always reflect the stages you and your family are at – isn’t that great?
Don’t Compete
One thing I have learned as I have gotten older is not to compete. My home is just that – a place for me and my family. It doesn’t matter if a friend has something different or if the radiator I have chosen isn’t to the taste of someone else. Once you close your front door, your home is your little sanctuary away from the rest of the world and as such, the only people who have to love it are the ones that live in it – why does the opinion of anyone else matter?
