Now that summer is upon us, we’re just about ready for BBQs, bike rides, and trips to the beach. What we are not ready for is pests in the home! Unfortunately, pests do tend to come inside during the warm months. You could try somewhere like yucca valley pest control or for a few natural solutions to keep them away, try these six ideas.

1 . Diatomaceous earth

Diatomaceous earth is the fossilized remains of phytoplankton. These remains contain an ingredient called silica. Diatomaceous earth is collected by mining oceans or rivers. It’s a natural substance, yet you should still use a mask when you handle the powder. This is just to ensure that it does not irritate your body when you breathe it in. You can use the powder by sprinkling it on the floor around the edges of your rooms. When pests ingest this powder, they become dehydrated and die.

2. Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus trees grow in Australia, leaves from the trees are used to make eucalyptus oil. It’s used to treat a variety of ailments and conditions, including asthma, nasal congestion, and arthritis. Insects simply hate the stuff, so it’s a great idea to burn eucalyptus candles. You can also buy some oil and rub it around your home, particularly in the kitchen area.

3. Citrus peel

Citrus peels are a fantastic natural pest control remedy; the best thing to do is to rub the peel on areas such as window sills, doorways, and inside cracks and crevices. Do not leave the peels out around your home, simply rub and then throw the peels into your compost. As an alternative, squeeze a little citrus into a water spray bottle and then spray this solution around your home.

4. Neem oil

Do your indoor plants keep getting bothered by pests? If so, it’s advisable to use a little neem oil. Neem oil is extracted from a tree called ‘Azadirachta Indica’; this is a tree that grows across both India and South Asia. Any part of the tree can be used to produce neem oil; however, it’s the seeds which are the most effective to keep pests at bay. Apply neem oil to your plants both inside and out to keep pesky bugs from eating them.

5. Garlic spray

Garlic is another excellent home remedy for pests. First, take three bulbs of garlic and crush them in a food processor. Once the bulbs are crushed, put these into a spray bottle of vegetable oil and water. Start spraying the mixture around your home, particularly in your kitchen.

6. White vinegar

Mix an equal solution of white vinegar and water and then apply this to both your surfaces and your plants. It’s vital to dilute with water when applying to your plants; this is because too much acidity may harm them. To improve your garden you can try all of the above solutions outside on your plants too.

If you’ve tried all these remedies and you’ve still got a pest problem, it’s probably time to call in pest control services. Some pests can be harder to remove than others, and pest control will have the expertise to deal with the problem fast.
