Until you become a parent, I don’t think you can ever appreciate how important time-management is.

When I think back to those child-free days when I’d do things on a whim and leave things to the last-minute, it does give me a certain feeling of nostalgia. However, that said, since I’ve had to become more organised with my time, I do get more done – more done than I ever got done when I didn’t have children.

I think when you learn to prioritise tasks and use your time as effectively as possible, you become used to doing things this way so you automatically become a more efficient machine.

Easy Ways To Bond As A Family

So with that in mind, here are some of my top time-management tips:

  1. Prioritise and Organise with Lists

When you have so many things to do, it’s so easy to get distracted doing something when you’re in the middle of doing another.

So try to put a list of priorities in place. This not only helps you focus on the most important tasks, but also helps you feel more organised as you can see what needs doing and when. Planning ahead also helps you feel less stressed as you’ve written everything down so it’s not chasing around in your head.

And don’t forget to practice the art of saying ‘no’, as well. You shouldn’t feel guilty if you haven’t got time to do something, nor should you feel pressured into doing more than you feel able.

  1. Try to Get Things Done – On the Go

When you’re pushed for time, you need to find effective ways to get things done but without using up much time and energy. From having your food shopping delivered to walking the kids to the school so you get some exercise in for the day – there are so many ways you can make the most of your time.

So look for ways you can speed up certain things by getting them done as you’re doing something else.

For example, places like Allied Autocare offer mobile serving options, which I find an absolute dream! Not only does it free up the time spent travelling to and from the garage but it also gives me peace of mind that I’m getting a reliable service without having to search around for a reputable garage.

In years gone by, I’d have never dreamed of doing anything like this. But you’ll be surprised how much less stressed you feel when you’re getting things done without having to organise journeys, kids and everything else you have to juggle.

  1. Look for Apps That’ll Help You

Finally, there are so many helpful apps that’ll help you manage your time more efficiently. From a simple app that allows you to do that food order (even for takeaway treats on Friday nights!) to apps that help you put together a family calendar, look for ones that’ll help you take charge and stay on top of your day-to-day to-dos. Here’s a great list.

Ultimately, time management is all about taking time out to plan your life. Take a deep breath, work through what needs doing and start organising your life into easy-to-digest chunks. You’ll soon feel much less like a run-ragged mum and much more like a mum who could take on the world.
