Indian food continues to be a popular meal in the UK. What was once seen as strange ‘foreign’ food has been adopted as a British staple. That isn’t to say that everything with the Indian moniker is brilliant, so here are some of the best places in the UK to get a great curry.

Bradford

When you think Indian food the place that immediately springs to mind is Bradford. With a large Indian population and more Indian restaurants than you can shake a Naan at, Bradford is the place to go if you are looking for an amazing curry experience. It isn’t just curry, though. Located just outside the centre of Bradford in the town of Shipley, Shimla Spice has everything any budding Indian obsessive could ever need. They have exquisite starts, delectable mains and a range of delicious desserts. If you are ever even remotely nearby then you owe it to yourself to visit this brilliant restaurant.

Supermarkets

You might not think it but supermarkets are a great place to get amazing Indian food. If you don’t feel like cooking then ready meals are an option but they are never as good as the real thing. Cooking a decent curry isn’t as hard as you might think, all you need is a little bit of preparation and a few choice ingredients. Picking the curry powder to suit your palate is key. Don’t pick something overly mild otherwise you’ll have to top it up with some extra chillis and the same is true for people who don’t enjoy spicy curries. If you don’t want to worry about spices and the like then you could always grab a jar of Pataks. This curry paste is packed with flavour and can instantly make an excellent curry. If you are really struggling for time or just want to treat yourself then grabbing a takeaway is always an option. With somewhere like Deliveroo though you can get restaurant quality food straight to your door and you can get on with your evening.

London

Like many other things, London is the place to be for Indian food. It isn’t quite as good as Bradford but it is a close second. London is huge and thanks to its size it can hide some amazing Indian restaurants. You can’t find the likes of Amaya, who provide a unique Indian tapas-style experience, or Cinnamon Club, with its gentlemen’s club vibes. Or even the classic stylings of places like Apollo Banana Leaf. London really has it all.
