We now have two toddlers running around the house and it only seemed like yesterday when they couldn’t even roll over! Now they’re taking over the house as if no one lives here! I love it when you can see their development right in front of your favourite toys. It usually comes to light when they’re playing with a favourite toy or when they reach something they couldn’t figure out how to a couple of weeks ago. It’s a minefield trying to find out what toddlers like to play with so here’s a little helping hand from us. It’s our second round of Toy Box Talk. You can read our first one here, which was all about our toddler favourites a few months ago. Here is their current top three –

Hape Baby’s Bug Book

We love Hape because of their simple but fun approach to toys and development. Everything we’ve had from them has been amazingly made out of wood and is still going strong. They’re great value for money that’s for sure. All the above goes for this gorgeous baby book too. It’s bright and colourful but as it’s made with wood is amazing at withstanding toddler chewing.

It’s suitable from 10 months old and is a really bright picture book. It helps little ones learn if you sit with them and do the ‘say what you see game’ soon enough Marlo starts trying to repeat words. It’s great to take away with us because it withstands so much without getting damaged and Marlo loves sitting with it trying to turn the wooden pages.

Peppa’s Muddy Festival Book

This has been the book of the year so far in our house. It’s been read a million times by both Cameo and Marlo. It’s a lift the flap book and they love the interaction it brings. Of course, it’s Peppa Pig so Cameo loves that he knows all the characters. Marlo loves the bright colours and points to things on the pages to tell us to say what they are.

After a couple of months of EXTREME use, the book is a little worse for wear. It’s a board book so considering the use it’s lasted well. But for me, the wear and tear is a sign of a well-loved book.

Playbrush Smart

OK so it’s not exactly a toy, but in Cameo’s world, it almost is. The Playbrush Smart has made brushing teeth time a whole load easier. It’s a Smart Device that you can pop your little one’s toothbrush into (it looks like a little stand). Then with the magic of Bluetooth and the Playbrush App (available on android and IOS), little ones can brush their teeth and play games at the same time!

It took a few attempts to get Cameo to not take the base off and to realise the toothbrush was part of the game. (He just wanted the phone!) But once he got it, he found it hilarious and actually wanted to brush his teeth. We don’t use it all the time because we don’t want to become reliant on it. But those times when he is… how should I say it?… testing my patience or when Marlo needs a bit more attention / needs a nappy change/feeding etc. This really comes in handy. You’ll also get stats and feedback on your kid’s brushing technique so you know where to help them. It’s def a win-win situation!

Some of the games you have to pay for but you can get a couple for free such as colouring-in and flying planes. It’s a great little idea and really quite innovative. We’ll be using this with Marlo too.
