There are a few things that tick Cameo’s boxes when it comes to toys. Firstly, they have to be colourful, secondly, he likes to be able to relate them to his everyday life so he feels clever and finally, if it can be thrown in the air or at his brother – it’s definitely a winner! I’m not sure these all tick my list but they’re not far wrong if I’m honest (minus the throwing things at his brother part obviously). So when The Stacking Veggie Game from Hape landed on our doorstep for us to review, we were both pretty chuffed!
The Stacking Veggie Game from Hape is basically a much more colourful, fun and interactive version of Jenga. There are 54 solid wooden pieces that are made to look like vegetables. From carrots to peppers, they’re super bright and identifiable which gives us some great interaction from Cameo already. He is obsessed with carrots so the first thing he did when we opened the box was pick the carrot pieces out and count them. Over, and over again. Fine by me! If it keeps him amused I will never complain!
This game promotes logic, dexterity, and critical thinking skills. There’s lots more to it then you might think at first. Basically, you build the veggie tower and the aim is to remove one at a time without the tower toppling over. It took Cameo a little while to grasp the idea but he did! He much preferred building the tower until it fell down, which again, is just another way to play it. We also played matches, by finding matching pieces and shouting snap and Cameo also used them when he plays his make-belief shop.
Other than the pieces being easy, throwable things to aim at his younger brother, the pieces are really safe. With Non-toxic finishes, curved edges and the most sturdy pieces you’ll ever play with. It’s also pretty weather safe, so it’s a great garden or park game too if you’re having picnics in the warmer weather. The Stacking Veggie Game is right up there with the rest of the Hape products that we love playing with inside our home.
This is a great gift for the child in your life that has everything, or if you just don’t know them that will but want to get them something that they will love and their parents will approve of.
