I now officially have two toddlers and it is WILD! I go from absolutely being enthralled in playing with them to literally counting down the minutes to bedtime. It’s also so hard to know what to get them for Christmas. What’s going to be played with and what’s going to be thrown behind the sofa in 3.1 seconds. As a little guide, here are my top toddler toys for Christmas 2019.
Baby Shark Singing Puppet with Tempo Control
You might be totally over this song buy now but trust me, your toddler isn’t! This Baby Shark Puppet sings THAT song and the faster you move it’s mouth the fast the singing goes. It’s actually quite a fun toy to watch the kids play with. It’s a super soft plush toy and is really bright – so a joy to play with. It’s suitable for ages 3 years and over.
OranguTwang
Kids love nothing more than something making them jump out of their skin. Add monkeys into the equation and you know you’re onto a winner. Monkey noises were one of the first things Marlo learnt to do hah! OrganuTwang is a two + player game (although Cameo will quite happily play by himself) where you have to hook fruit and other jungle stuff onto the Orangutan until it can’t hold anymore and it twangs, throwing everything all over the place. (Queue lots of laughing from the kids at this point!) This is a great Christmas day game for all the family to play. It’s easy, light-hearted and nothing too much to think about. Just what you need after a Christmas dinner! OranguTwang is for ages 4+ and not batteries required.
Fuzzi Street – Ice Cream Parlour
If your little one loves arts and crafts then this is a great little set. If they love cute kittens then double-winning for you! the Fuzzikins Ice Cream shop is a lovely little set where your little one can keep themselves entertained by decorating their own Fuzzikins ice cream parlour. I love that you can rinse and recolour your characters in this set meaning that your little ones get so much play out of it instead of it just being a one-hit wonder. There are loads of Fuzzikins sets to choose from so you can make sure you Fuzzi Street. But I think starting with an ice cream parlour is exactly the kinda street I’d love to live on. This is suitable for ages 4+.
Mr Tumble Something Special Learning Pad
If you have a toddler or spend a lot of time with a toddler I almost guarantee you’ll know who Mr Tumble is. Apart from being fun and colourful, he also does wonders with diversity and Makaton signing. This learning pad is a bright tablet with a touch screen. Its aim is to help children with colour and number recognition. It even has Six games to encourage learning about colours, numbers, shapes, letters, characters and musical instruments. It’s for ages 2 years and older. My 2-year-old niece basically stole our before I had a chance to take pictures (which is a great review within itself!)
Count With Peppa
Which kid doesn’t love Peppa Pig. Almost every kid will know who the little pink characters are and my boys are big fans of Peppa and George. This Count with Peppa toy is a great little learning toy for little ones and because they know the character it makes it even more fun. It’s brilliant for helping children learn numbers and colours. From Peppa telling them what to do to telling them well done – it’s a really fab little toy for them. All they have to do is listen to Peppa and then post the coins into her purse. Peppa also sings some well-known songs from the series. This is definitely a winner of a Christmas gift. It’s suitable for ages 2+.
Dear Zoo Puzzle Tray
Suitable for ages 1+, this Dear Zoo wooden puzzle tray Dear Zoo Puzzle Tray is great for little hands. There are 8 chunky animal pieces to fit into their corresponding spaces on the board. As with all puzzles like this, it helps develop motor skills. The Dea Zoo Puzzle Tray is super sturdy (so if your little one is a chewer, this is fine!). It’s also really colourful and a pleasure to play with. A fab little toddler gift.
OjO Mars Mission Kit & Raft Mission Kit
These mission kits are for ages 4+ but with adult help, they’re fab for 3-year-olds too. They’re real creative learning games, with action and creativity thrown in. They’re fun sets that ask you to do something. So for example – build a raft that floats. All the equipment is in the set but it means your little one has a chance to develop their problem-solving skills. There are videos you can watch along with each set to make sure you’re building it right. It’s a great team exercise that gives you some quality time with your little one and makes them feel like they’ve really achieved something all while learning skills they’ll need as they grow. Such a great and unique Christmas gift.
Peppa Pig Campervan Shape Sorter
Back to some old favourites, the Peppa Pig campervan Shape Sorter is a must-have for little ones. It’s a classic toy isn’t it? The wooden shape sorter has always been the kind of toy we get little ones who are developing. But now it’s in the Peppa Pig design, well, it’s definitely going to be a winner now. It has four shaped holes and eight coloured wooden blocks. It encourages hand-eye coordination,
shape and colour recognition and is suitable for ages 2+. It’s bright, colourful and robust. Exactly what you need for a toddler toy this Christmas.
BLOPENS Rainbow
For the creative toddlers who are in the older age bracket, the Blopens rainbow is a great creative toy. It includes stencils, paper, blopens – everything you need to create airbrushed pictures. Let your little ones experiment with the pens and create a whole load of random artwork – which if we’re honest, never really looks like a dog does it? But our hearts still melt when they show us what they’ve created! Blopens are a fab alternative to the standard arty sets and is something new and exciting for your little ones to try. Suitable for ages 4+.
Dear Zoo Matching Pair Game
Just like the puzzle tray earlier on. This Dear Zoo matching pair game is bright, colourful and lot’s of fun. It’s a great stocking filler and suitable for ages 2+. It helps develop memory and encourages social interaction. Cameo does tend to make his own games up and Marlo just loves stacking them up and then knocking them back down. It’s a simple matching pairs game that is great for trying to get your little ones to play together.
