As an adolescent or even earlier on in their childhood, your child will likely be influenced by their peers. It’s human nature as we value what those around us think. It’s thought that this awareness begins at the age of 9 years old and can be both positive and negative for children. In the instance that their peers are high achievers and display good behavioural traits, children are likely to follow suit in order to fit in. It can be negative when they don’t have the best examples around them, feel forced or pressured to participate in things which they don’t want and are put at risk of harm. The best way to protect your child from these social pressures is to ensure that they have a stable upbringing, confidence and know their mind. We have some ideas from a girls’ nursery in Surrey to help you work on this

Saying No

It should be easy for your child to speak up when something’s not right and say no but it can be awkward when having to decline friends. You can help to make them feel comfortable in asserting themselves in this way by role playing situations that they may be faced with.

Self-Love

So long as your child knows their worth and loves themselves, there will be very little that bullies can do. They won’t be able to get to them and they will feel less pressure to conform.

Communication

Another thing that you can do is make them feel comfortable about coming to you. You can reassure and remind them that you are there to listen. That way, if there is ever a situation that they feel uncomfortable about, they will be less embarrassed and worried about coming to you for help.
